Debbi's Story
Life
After our graduation, I was left thinking, 'What's Next??'. I was accepted into a private college in Missouri, Drury College. It was beautiful there, and a great learning experience as I entered college. I very quickly discovered that I wasn't where I had been, cognitively, before I had been involved in that 7/21/88 automobile accident during summer break, in Colorado. College was HARD, especially with my short-term memory problems. My political science course and my history course were unbearable! I jumped around a bit.... one semester in Missouri, 1 semester at NSU in Tahlequah, and then a couple of years at T.J.C. (now T.C.C.) until I got my Associate in Applied Science (Human Services interest).
I worked a bit as an Activities Coordinator at an Adult Day Care facility. Then, I got my dream job.... working with special needs preschoolers in Tulsa's Head Start program. Well, children of my own took over my 'dream job'. My dream job now involves our 5 year old son who just started pre-K and our 10 yr old who is now a fifth grader. (It's a full time job keeping up with their busy lives- making sure homework gets done AND asking about current girlfriends!! I also provide home daycare for a precious little girl out of our home. I am home when the boys gets home from school. I couldn't ask for a better life!
My husband works as the accounting manager at a local hotel. One of the benefits of this job is that me and the boys get year-round use of the outdoor heated pool! Yea, health insurance would be nice, but hey, I get use of a heated pool! ;-)
I am just about right where I wanted to be at this age. I have my husband, my two kids, a house (that we bought using a lot of trust and the internet!), a scruffy looking dog in the...Expand for more
backyard, and I live in a great town! (I became a Texan about 4 years ago)
News of our 10 year reunion passed me by. I'd love to get emails from other members from our graduating class. Maybe I could catch up on a few lost times!

School
In Colorado, Green Mountain High School, where I attended school for most of the last semester of our senior year, we were doing a Humanities project on Prom Etiquette. I had volunteered to help out, so I was in the process of changing into my prom dress to participate in a class project. The Fire drill went off!! I couldn't move very fast, still in recovery after a serious automobile accident, so two guys dressed in suits met me at the outside door of the school. They picked me up, and carried me to the back of the parking lot where our class was assigned to meet. Picture Perfect AND hilarous, when you think about it!! :-)
College
My roommate at Drury College found my fiance' asleep in our (all girl's) dorm room while I was in class. She reported him to security and he was removed from the campus! Ah, those carefree, adventuresome days of our youth!
Workplace
I interned as an Adult Day Care Activities Coordinator. This was rewarding, but it wasn't quite the age group that interested me most. I then moved up to work in Tulsa's Head Start program as a disability assistant. I worked one on one with preschoolers at risk, helping them to achieve their IEP goals. This was enjoyable, until I became pregnant! My new baby came first! I am now a stay at home mom, providing home daycare services to other parents in need!
