Debbie (Debora)'s Story

Life.... I moved to Arizona in April of 2003, and I am now disabled due to my MS. I am renting a one bedroom duplex apartment with a yard for my dog Shadow who is now 11 years old. He is also my child (my pride and joy) at this time of my life. My brother's 2 kids (Nicole 19 & Dakota 14) and growing up way too fast. Where have I Lived..... I moved a lot in my life, so lets get started. 1. Born at Hamilton AFB, just north of San Francisco. 2. When I was 3-4 months old, my mom and I went to Portland, while dad whet to Germany. While there Troy was born in 1965. 3. We than were stationed in Upper Michigan in the town of Marquette in 1966 with a snow tunnel to the front door and it was as tall as the two story building. 4. We only stayed there for 7 months, and dad was sent to Vietnam in 1968, and the rest of us went back to Portland to be closer to my paternal grandparents. 5. Dad came back in 1969, halfway through my kindergarten year and we were then stationed at Fairchild AFB near Spokane Wa. Again we were met with snow, so Troy and I played on the hugh snow mound while the mobile home was put on the lot. 6. In 1972, Troy had a birthday wish to see where he was born, and it was granted. My dad received orders to go back to Germany (third assignment) and was not happy, as we were now heading to a radar site and his job was on a small Army base. We moved in August 1972, shortly after my birthday. We travel across the southern part of the US to see family and relatives before leaving in September for Germany. We did not know if there was a school on base, and were told we may have to away from our parents during the week. We did have an elementary school on base, that both Air Force and Army children went to until 6th grade. What was neat about this school, was that we were located in a hold hospital, so many classes had an upper or lower wing (we had so many rooms where we could see movies, have art, ect in different rooms.) In fifth grade we set up a haunted house for Halloween in several of the old hospital pt rooms. As far for PE these three years, it consisted of 4th grade: boys played basketball and the girls learn how to trill the batton. 5th grade: square dancing, and in 6th grade: we played volleyball as our teach was from Hawaii. So you see, my physical education was different from you all at North Marion and when you make fun of my because I could not do something, it hurt me very much. 7. Dad put in his papers to retire in 1975, so we left Germany one month early from school. My parents had to fight to get the school to pass us. This time we travelled the northern states on our way back to Oregon. We first stayed with my dads parents in Canby, where thay had year-round school. I was getting bored, so I ask my parents to enroll in school since we missed a whole month. I started 7th grade at Ackerman for a grand total of six weeks, just in time for the Clackamas County Fair and for us to move to Aurora. 8. In Aurora now, and I actually spent six years here. 9. In 1983, I moved to southern California. Found work in a travel agency working in their accounting department. 10. In 1985, I had a preminition (dream) that something was going to happen to my dad, so I moved back home in Oregon. I am glad I did, as six months later, Dad has a massive heart attack. December of that year (1986) I received a phone call from my old boss in Ca, to come back, which I accepted with consessions. 11. 1986 moved back to So. Ca and my old roommate and I moved back into the same apartment complex. 12. 1988, I moved back home and found a job in international transportation for a company that was starting to work for Federal Express clearing freight. 13. Fedex closed down Portland clearance in 1989 and so I made the move to Anchorage, AK with 13 other to startup the new facility. I was promoted and received a big payrise. This also brought Molly Herbst and Vance Wilson up there, as I was able to get them jobs in Portland. We did have to spend some time in Memphis for up to two months. I was lucky, I only spent six weeks before heading to AK. 14. In 1994, after five winters, I decided to move back to Portland, as my neice was about to turn 4, and I missed my family. I spent a few months at Troy's home, then moved to the Gresham area, while working downtown. In 1998, I purchased a house in Parkrose, where I was only a couple of miles from work. 15. After graduating from Pioneer Pacific College in 2003, I could not find work, so I moved down to Arizona, where my parents live. I lived with them for four months before moving to my apt. So far, only 15 major moves. If I move any more, it would be back to my parents in my house that we rent out for money in the winterl. If anything ever happens to my father, then mom and I may look at moving back to Oregon for my health to get away from the heat. We also may just live in both states during the year. School.... I had a lot of good teachers during my time at North Marion. I really like OB our PE teacher at the time. Then there was Mr. Usrey with his histor...Expand for more
y class where we did college bowls and skits to learn. Mr. Bridgens art classes, Mr. Marble and woodshop my senior year. Mr. Hancock taught me well in math, wish I had him right now for algebra again. I enjoyed playing Basketball in high school. I had a great outside shot, and boy was I slow when we had to do SUCKUPS. I didn't play my senior year, as I thought I would be sitting on the bench way to long. I did help out, as a manager and statistican. Plus I like working with Mr. Bridgens in both basketball and track. Again, I believe I had MS back then. What was the Wildest thing I did in High School..... I kept pretty much to myself, as I was not popular. I was never asked to go to parties, concerts, dances, or get togethers. In our senior year, a couple of my friends, (too be remained nameless, but you know who you are,) we found out the teachers were getting together at Mr. Hankock's house. I was a nice night, but the dew had aready setted on their vehicals. We decided to TP the cars and yard. Went to the market, bought the TP, and had fun.... College..... I went to Northwestern Business College after High School, and earned a certificate in Travel Agent/Office Administration. I work in the travel business for several years. Then it was the transportation field. After 9/11, I lost my job so..... I went back to school and decided to get at least my AA degree. I went to Pioneer Pacific College. I had worked well with people, and I had thought about being a nurse when I graduated from High School. I received my AA in applied science in Medical Assisting in April of 2003. It was tough, but again, I think my MS made it difficult for me. I just want to thank Barbara Decknadel, Connie Christensen, and Sharon Hughes for their parts in helping me graduate. After moving down to AZ and working on the local Air Force base in the hospital, I wanted to continue school for my nursing degree. I started with Algebra and struggled with it. With my MS, it was just too hard and I barely passed, with Chemisty next, I had called it quits and stopped any further schooling. Oldest Friend.... Julie is my oldest friend, as I have lost all contact with anyone I met while my father was in the Air Force. We met my first day at North Marion in 7th grade. We had science class first period with Mr. Saunders, and I just happened to sit on the "boys" side, as I was the first one in class. I did not know that at that time there was a side to sit on. I hear all this snickering and others talking about me, the new girl, that I was about to cry at my locker. Julie walked up to me and said "don't worry about them, I will be your friend." We have been best of friends since that day, plus our birthdays are only two days apart. So Leo's do click together. First Job out of High School.... My first job was at DuraCraft in Newberg, where I got paid min wage in 1981. What I remember most about it was that we made parts for those big wooden dollhouses, and I put the kits together. It was rather easy, but I was always told that I was too slow. Boy, did I have MS back then? For being my first job out of high school, I couldn't ask for more. My Best Childhood Memory.... My childhood memories come before I came to North Marion. My father was stationed in Germany, on a small Army base, even though we were Air Force. We travelled a lot during the years of 1972-1975, that I actually saw a lot of Europe. I also spent time with our german nanny that we had, when we lived over there earlier, spending summers seeing local historical sites near where she lived. She bought me a bike for my birthday, where we would ride into town for a lite snack, or the train station for trips. I had my bike until the last summer we were there, when Troy and I were heading over to her sisters to meet them, when I was hit head on by a german citizens. Troy left me there and went back to get Marta and sister Lani. I had my first ambalance ride to a german hospital. After my discharge we finally had the ice cream that we were planning to have earlier. Man did I hurt, with a big bruise on my chest; nose hurting, and my knees hurting since I landed on them after flipping over my handlebars and rolling off the side of the front end. Of course while sitting and waiting for Troy & Marta, I was trying to tell standbyers that my glasses we under the car so I could see. Another memory was one summer our parents got us a summer swim pass at the local pool. We went about every day in the mornings, as the german children went to school every day, as we would have the pool to ourselves. After 1pm, the pool would be soooooo crowded, you had a hard time swimming. We would jump off the highest platform dive, that would give you a big lump in your stomach before you step off of it. Winning $$$$$...... If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to charity, then spend the rest on family, a house and vacations. *************************************** If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have laughter, fun, and friends to be able to deal with the day-to-day. ***************************************
