Debbie's Story
Life
I was at Central from 1963 to 1967. I lived in Peppermill Village and later moved to Waldorf, Maryland. My brother Michael Emery attended Central and graduated in 1969 and lives in Owings, Maryland.
I have been married to my best friend for over 30 years, Roy Gibson. We have one son (Roy, Jr. in Waldorf, Md.) and 3 daughters from Roy's first marriage, (Terry, & 3 grandsons and 1 great -grandson in Alabama) Ellen in Daytona Beach, Florida) and & Lisa, with Shane and James in Waldorf, Md.) We also have a little girl (Robin) that were are raising, who is now 9 years old and keeps us very very busy.
I retired from PEPCO in January 2005 after 38 years and love every minute of it. I enjoy my time with my family and the kids and grandkids keep me young and very busy.
One of our classmates, Lorraine Dawson (Gagnon) is my best friend and I have kept in close contact with several others, Katrina Weaver, Buddy Wiles and Laura Wilson.
I enjoy our class reunions and missed getting the 40th together but plan on getting another reunion going soon.
School
My biggest crush was a Senior who played Basketball when I was a freshman. He never knew I existed until one night I had to run to my Dad's car and get something and since it was almost dark I ran out in my "Baby Doll " PJ's and he rode by with a couple of guys from Central just as I was headed back in the house and they honked. one day at school he walked by me in the hall and said "Cute Pajama's". I heard he married his high school sweetheart and I believe they are probably still together. NO I am not revealing the Basketball Star, but he had broad shoulders and greatlooking legs.
My three favorite teachers were Mrs. Houchen(Psy), Mr. Gillett (Math) and Ms. Watkins (PE). Ms. Watkins attended our reunions until her untimely death. Mr. Gillett I saw several times over the years as he coached my nephew in Football at Northern High School in Calvert County. I don't think I was really inspired by any of my teachers, but I really did find these three as my favorite.
My craziest memory was talking Joe Jones into running for Class President (Class of 67) and running around and getting the voters his way. He thought I was crazy but I knew we could pull it off because everyone liked him and his band. Well it worked out and when we see each other at the reunions we always have a good laugh about it.
Another memory was; I was a Pom Pom girl for my Jr. & Sr. years and Donnie Patterson had created a nickname for me in 10th grade and it stayed with me until graduation. At one of the basketball games I was doing a cartwheel when Donnie and about 10 of his friends shouted out this nickname and I thought was going to end up on my butt in front of everyone at the game, luckily I didn't. NO, I am not revealing the nickname.
