Debbie's Story
Life
It's been a long time since we have walked the halls of DCHS. As our lives have gone forward, I have to give thanks to Linda Broadaway, Vocational Office Training teacher at DCHS. With Ms. Broadaway's encouragement I entered the VOT Program beginning in 1971, my junior year. My job assignment was working for the Douglas County Board of Education during my junior and senior years at DCHS.
When Bob Alexander was elected Superintendent in August 1972, he requested that I work for him full time beginning December 1972. Luckily, I had the credits to allow me to do this and still graduate with my class.
I began what became a 30 year career with the Douglas County School System, beginning as receptionist, then as secretary to the Associate Superintendent for General Administration and Personnel. The sixteen years ...Expand for more
I spent working in the Personnel Department gave me an opportunity to stay in touch with former teachers, administrators and students. With many fond memories, I retired in the summer of 2002.
Now in my spare time I enjoy playing a variety of musical instruments, reading, walking and just relaxing.
Workplace
During my 30 years with the Douglas County School System I worked as receptionist and then as the secretary to the Associate Superintendent for General Administration and Personnel. I enjoyed the opportunity to work and give back to the community and school system in the county where I was born and raised.
My job gave me the opportunity to stay in contact with almost all of my former teachers and quite a few of my fellow students.
Even though I loved every minute of my job, I love every minute of retirement.
