Debby's Story

The only teachers I really remember from Mountain View are that old bat Mrs. Martin who used to come around and wack you on the head with her chalk brush if you weren't paying attention I sure got that enough. I also remember the time she brought all kinds of different types of food in to the classroom and we were to try some of them I remember trying chocolate covered ants. I also remember Mrs Denuve she was so nice and so pretty She taught us french, remember it started in grade three it was manditory. Then in JR HI at Sir Wlifred Laurier I remember one teacher not sure grade seven or eight he was a nut ball a nervous wreck. We(as a class in general) were being quite bad all the time one time we were doing spit balls on the ceiling he came in the room and some fell he had a ream of foolscap paper on is desk he picked it up and threw it then left the room he was so mad. That year I got my first and only strapping for reading Mad Magazine when I was supposed to be doing work I had it tucked nicley inside my book he caught me and sent me down to the principals office Mr. Klatzel? I remember Mrs. Mjelssonis oK I probably butchered that name but she also taught us french we had to choose a french name and that was who we were in that class I was Dominique hmm I found a book from that class just the other day. I also remember the boys gym teacher Mr Traxen, Traxal, Trax something? If some of the boys misbehaved in his class he would make them stand in the front of the class with arms out to the side, raised shoulder height, palms facing the ceiling, then he would start to pile a book on your outstretched hands every few minutes and you better not drop one inch. But he was a real good teacher. In high school my nick name was Pepsi which was quite strange because I only drank Tahiti Treat, remember that Glen? Everytime someone would call me Pepsi you would say tahiti Treat. I really only liked three subjects in Hi School I hated Math I don't remember the teachers name but I didn't like him he had an accent like maybe german? I liked Mr. Mutton in Beauty Culture, Hmm the drafting teachers name is not here right now but he was real good (Smyth?) ah Smelly?, and the English teacher can't remember his name either right now I like him I thought he was a good teacher. He took time to talk to you. I left Calgary in 1978 when my first daughter was born. I lived at 820A-44 St.SE know how I remember that? Because thats what made me move away from Calgary. 44 st was pretty busy and my daughter was just learning to walk, I was talking to a neighbor and turned around there she was, ...Expand for more
just about on the street sooooo... I decided then and there I was not going to raise my children in the city. I built a new home in Airdrie and moved there after a while my husband & I split up I had to leave then I moved a bit farther away from the city onto a farm right on the highway near Crossfield, Then I met a guy from Barrhead. Here's how small the world is does anyone remember Margaret Pothoff? I found out quite a few years after we had gotten married that he was Margarets cousin. Anyway we had an offer to buy into a small dairy farm (My Husband's Uncles) Yes dairy milking cows. I was a natural at it no one could believe that I was from the city. I just treated the cows like they were kids you know sort of baby them, treat them right and they will treat you right. But that offer to buy into the dairy fell thru so there we were up in Barrhead and we just decided to stay we bought a farm of our own then built a house. I went milking for other people for around 17-18 years. I had 4 girls all 6 years apart not very good for me because if anyone remembers me I was quite the tomboy. I played hockey with the boys at SouthView Rink every once and a while then my Dad was home one winter and he decided he would start a girls team. We didn't have anyone to play against but Forest Heights got a team then just a few short years later there was all kinds of girls teams to play against we played a tournament at the Hmmmm what was it called Tri something? can't remember in north Calgary. I was a tomboy is my point and I didn't want any girly girl's.... but had 4 of them... the only way to get a boy was to steal one so I did..... kidding I adopted my cousins boy. Now I have 4 gorgeous girly girls two are married, and one son. they range in age from 34 to 16. Yes I'm 57 years old and still have 1 child at home. My first daughter moved right back where she started... okay two blocks away. She is one block from FLHS. I have 5 grandkids 5 boys and 1 girl there's my boys. 1 great grandchild due in July 2013, My husband and I split, I sold my farm to my second oldest daughter and am now living back in Calgary. I was doing finish carpentry for many years, now due to some injuries, I just finished university Project Management course due to graduate soon. I work Downtown at Bow ValleySquare. I wish I had a year book because I just can't remember some of the names I think if you put the face to it from back in the day then maybe...... My Motto in life is there isn't anything you can't do if you want to bad enough. Your welcome to leave me a note and try to jar my memory more.
