Deborah's Story
After graduating in 1968, I went to visit my parents in Arizona. They had moved there in 1967 but I wanted to stay behind and graduate. I almost married a guy named Joe Nightingale, but that never happened. Once I moved to Arizona I never wanted to go back to Michigan, and I started a new life.
I moved to Phoenix in 1969 and lived there for about 8 years, got married and divorced, and was very happy. My friend Linda and I started a typesetting business which fluorished for about 25 years, but not with me. After a few years I wanted out, so I sold my share of the business to Linda and I moved to Texas, where I got married for a second time and had 2 children, a boy and a girl.
In 1979 we moved back to Arizona with our two small children and eventually ended up in a small mining town called Globe, which I loved. That's where I decided to go back to school and began taking college classes. After about 4 years we moved to another Arizona town called Yuma, which I hated. In 1986 my children and I moved back to the area where my parents lived, a small town between Phoenix and Tucson called Toltec, and I've been in this area ever since.

me and my third husband, John. He's a keeper. My mom will be 80 this month and is pretty feeble but still able to get around by herself and is a big help around the house. All of our children are out of the house, of course, but my daughter, Tenielle, lives about 3 hours away and is getting her Master's in Geology this year.
I have a wonderful grandson that will be 12 years old this June. He plays the saxophone and is very smart.
In 2001 I was diagnosed with cancer and survived several surgeries and chemotherapy and radiation. That same year my biggest dream came true when my husband and I were invited to become partners in the ownership of a houseboat on Lake Powell. We've been enjoying that luxury ever since, and I feel fortunate every day that I am alive to take friends and family on a very unique excursion when circumstances permit.
In 2003 I finally graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics with a concentration in Public Policy and Administration, Summa Cum Laude. My husband, John, owns a NAPA Auto Parts store in Casa Grande and we've been married for 18 years. He's a wonderful guy and we suit each other very nicely. We met in college and the rest is history.
