Deborah's Story
Life
Well, I am still here in New Mexico, living in the mountains about 30 east of Albuquerque. There have been alot of changes in my life in the past few years. First, I was divorced in 2004 after 30 years of marriage. I am now enjoying my independence and solitude at times. My biggest change is in my health. In 2005 I was diagnosed with ALS also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease. This is a big challenge for me, and I hope I have been meeting the challenge with determination, and cheerfulness. the diagnosis. It has mostly affected my speech, chewing and swallowing. I use a TTY phone, a dry erase board, and I do have a speech machine. Otherwise, I am pretty mobile yet. I still drive, and I have retired on disability as of last Sept 2006. I have been working obsessively on my genealogy and traveling as much as I can. I just got back from a cruise in the Caribbean. I am planning on going to the DePaul reunion in Oct, so I am looking forward to seeing as many of my classmates as possible! Life is good, make the most of it!
