Debra's Story

Life Well, hi ya'll. I am living in Katy and my dad still lives in the house in Oak Forest. I am married with 4 grown kids and adopting a baby girl. My husband, Michael and I are ordained ministers as well as foster parents. I still teach piano and voice, and lead Praise and Worship at my church. I speak and teach at churches, women's groups, retreats, etc. I have come full circle as far as after ministering/traveling and working and teaching. After getting laid off a few years ago from my dream job as executive assistant to the COO, I had fun staying home.We kept adopting dogs and cats until I realized they were better cared for than the kids of the moms I was counseling. We became foster parents and now I love on little newborn babies. All of the babies we have had the past three years have been born cocaine positive, or fetal alcohol. But through prayer and love, proper nutrition, they have gotten off to a better start. I think I've come out of my shell since my years at Scarborough, what a painful time that was! I have a wacky sense of humor and believe that laughter is the key to getting through anything and everything. I often wonder about many of you and hope things are going well. I hope to see ya'll at the reunion. I had chic...Expand for more
kened out about coming until I saw ya'lls names on my list and got excited. Don't expect me to look as good as I did at the last reunion...Ha! I guess we all have aged. Bye now, Love, Deb. School I'll leave that one alone on crushes...I hate rejection! Although it was fun when the older guys on the football team used to pick me up and run through the halls. Or pick me and my chair up from the lunch table and put me at their table right before the bell would ring. Raise your hand if you were one of the seven guys I asked to escort me to the Sundowner's ball before Randy Souther said he'd go. Oh my God, I still tell that story to my sons. I don't remember any of my teachers inspiring me, but my older sisters used to get me into the clubs and we would dance with Coach Blackman! I had Coach Williams for History and never learned a thing in his class. Years ago I saw him in a resteraunt and he apologized for not teaching us because he was disgruntled with the school district. All that time I thought I was historically challenged! I still have dreams of being in drill team and marching on the field with the band until I realize I'm in my PJ's. Hey, remenber the season tickets we used to get for the Astros for making Honor Roll? That was sweet!
