Debra's Story

Since graduation in 1974 I have married, had 2 sons and now have 2 grandsons, Hayden and Tanner. I started my nursing career in obstetrics and ended up in pediatrics! I have earned a BSN, masters in nursing education and have doctoral credits, no degree!! I am too busy to worry about school and frankly nursing still doesn't make it doable for practicing nurses to continue their education.Since 1984 I have been a nurse educator and for the past 13 years I have been a professor of nursing at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. I am the senior level coordinator, NCLEX coordinator and teach pediatrics, chronic illness, professional concepts and NCLEX preparation. ...Expand for more
I finally gave up my own practice in pediatrics in 2008 where I continued to work casual at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. I work for 9 months and have the summers off! I have just come off contract and am looking forward to a great summer at the pool and the beach! I have been married for over 40 years to Denny who works for US Airways in Pittsburgh. Our sons are Drew and Douglas. Drew is a school teacher and Doug works in the golf industry. I am blessed to have both of my paresnts still living and able to care for themselves. I love to read and garden. Hope to plant and deer proof my flower gardern soon! Would love to hear from any Presby nurse!!!
