Debra's Story

hello 82, after graduation i went to elon college( elon university) beautiful campus!! imajoredinjournalism and double minoredinamerican history andreligon met my husband in my junioryear and we were married in 1985 and 13monthslater had a baby boy, james wesley willard. we lost him in a car accident in 2005 and we were devastated. we established a memorial scholarship (in the communications dept.)at elon(where he was a student also) he had finished his freshmen yr. in the communications .dept. he was 19 and an organ donor.he was able to help many, especially burn victims with his donation of bone and tissue and skin. my husband was an army ranger and retired from active duty after 25 yrs and he is a colonel in the reserves..our son was a beautiful boy. in high school he was editor of the yearbook senior yr and was involved in many clubs and organizations and an honor roll student all 4 yrs in high school.. elon university is in elon,north carolina.. debsmusic likes include classic 60s 70s and 80s and also a few early 90s tunes. debstv likes include ken burns civil war documentary and roots movie.and the history channneland natl geographic channeldebs sports team likes include pittsburgh steelers, pirates and penguins.debsfavorite book likes include gone with the wind. i was born in bellfonte , pa.(which is just outside of state college where the pennsylvania state university is located) while my parents were...Expand for more
students at penn st. after dad graduated in june 1964 (i was born 2 months earlier in april)we moved to bethesda, md.my dad worked for the federal reserve then to gaithersburg, mdwhere my dad worked for ibm then in 1974 my parents wanted to get away from the busyness of that area ( that was in 1974!!!) and we built a house and moved to warrenton and my dad was working for ibm in manassas. welived in marstella est. 1 off route 605. it was the boonies then , really the sticks but we loved it, it was very rural then. we lost my dad in 1976 but mom met a wonderful man in 1976who was willing to take on 3 more kids in addition to his 3 boys ( 2 were adults and 1 lived with us, chip brown class of 1980). we were still the sapsaras ( me and my brothers) . we did not change our last name. i started at p.b. smith elementary half way thru 5 th grade (1974) and my mom had to drive us to warrenton to p.b. smith elementary school every day from manassas since we were living at the ramada inn(for 3months) in manassas cause the builder had gone bankrupt and we finally moved in in december 1974 while all of our belongings and furniture stayed on the moving van . we had our pets w us at the ramada inn which included a guinea pig(mine) a turtle(mikes) and a snake(matts) and the family dog!! it was a real zoo!! then it was on to P.B. Smith elementary school, followed by Warrenton Jr. high school, followed by Fauquier high school.
