Debra's Story

Life I am a special eduation teacher. I married an Air Force officer in 1980. I have twin sons' Mike and Matt. When I updated my bio last, they were 19! Now they are 24 now, one is a 4th grade teacher and the other a massage therapist, lucky us. and I am 50 now and loving it!They say the 40's are the new 30's and so on!! Bring it on! We have been here on Oahu 6 years, and have moved from base housing to a home in Aiea, Hawaii. My hubby Mike retires after 34 years in the Air Force, and we have decided to stay here. We love the warm weather, and no snow shoveling in the winter! We live up on a mountain ridge and down in the Halawa Valley. We have a clear view of all of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona. I kind of miss the base house, we lived right down the street from the mouth of the Pearl Harbor channel, and would go to meet and wave at the carriers and ships coming in out. But, now we get to see it from our deck or lanai). We didn't go far though, just a few miles down the road, and don't have to fight the afternoon traffic, which is really bad here! If you are ever on Oahu, give us a call, 808-487-1851. I would love to play hostess to old friends. Deb Workplace I have taught Special Education most of my career, and when I moved to Hawaii last year, I started volunteering at the Hawaii Food Bank near the base we were stationed, Hickam AFB. It is blossoming into a second career. I love to help people and make them smile, and here there are many people that need help and understanding and a warm smile every day. After 6 years of learning the traditional Hawaiian ...Expand for more
quilting, I am an old hat at it now and make quilts and pillows as gifts for friends. I also make baskets, which is alot of fun! Anything to take me outdoors. I have participated in the whale and seal count and well as turtle sanctuary here on Oahu and the other islands. If you are ever on the islands give us a call! What would surprise everyone at my highs school reunion is the: I have traveled around the world, I will try anything once, that includes skydiving (already done it), ziplining (done it), I am not the geeky, shy girl that I was in high school. Where have I lived and why did I move: married a military officer, moved 14 times in 26 years, and I have lived in the Phillipines, Korea, Japan and 8 states in the US. Wierdest job I have ever had: hmmmm, working in the zoo. What would I do differently if I had a do-over: hmmm, I would not have been so quiet and shy in HS. My biggest surpised in life: marrying military and living all over the world. To be truly happy, I would be where, doing what, with whom: well, I would right where I am enjoying life and watching my sons become fine young men. I would hope old friends would remember me: as kind, funny, and giving. My first crush: He was my first true love and still lives in California. I keep in touch with his family. The wildest thing I did in high school: helped friends empty out a friends locker and replace it with a days worth of trash! Her face was priceless! What teacher would I love to see again: well, there are two, my music teacher and my Spanish teacher, they had a huge impact on my life.
