Dee Anna's Story

I retired after 26 years of teaching mostly Sociology & Psychology but also Government & U.S. History. I was at Plano East Senior High School for 18 years, J.J. Pearce for 3 years & North Dallas High School 1 year as well as Forest Meadow Junior High for 3 years. Part of that time my name was Hargis. I have a daughter Whitney, a granddaughter April and a grandson Jacob who live in Frisco, Texas where I live. I work part-time at a local college library - fun work and I get to see former students. I am very politically active - working to secure our nation's borders, to reform immigration and to stop illegal immigration. I've been into a green lifestyle since the 70's and I continue my interest in green. I enjoy various artistic endeavors, gardening, photography, creative pursuits, music, dance and hanging with friends when the opportunity arises. I still like the Cardinals and the Chiefs although I live in Cowboy territory - they're ok. I'd enjoy hearing from former friends and students. There have been so many amazing students that I've been privileged to know. I learned so much from my students. I couldn't name them all but there are many out there such as John, Neil, Keith, Trey, Steve, Randy, Reggie, Gideon, Charlie, Jason, Mike, Joe, Wes, Eric, Adem, Cameron, etc. And there were girls too - Kristy, Jennifer, Laura, Chasity, Julie, Angela, Caroline, Pam, Rebekah, Missy, etc. There were a lot of fun times with students - all the Sociology music videos we made. I still have them. There was that Christmas party with my Soc or Psych class - 1988, I think - Reggie was in that class. Marriage projects - so many couples and only one divorce - Jennifer divorced Jimmy. Then the time Bobby got arrested in class for desertion (not for real) but he didn't know that at the time. It was hilarious! And the fund-raisers - the volleyball tournament and the 3 on 3 tournament - all the kids worked so hard and they were big successes. We...Expand for more
did a lot for Head Start, the women's shelter and many other organizations. Car washes, bake sales, raffles and the time we sold raffle tickets for a college scholarship. Kyle won it. We gave a couple other scholarships - you all did so much! Oh, the battle of the bands.... What else - self-portraits, socialization booklets, personality tests, culture pots, culture quilts, social networks. And the videos - Can't Buy Me Love - Ronald has evolved into McDreamy! The Gods Must Be Crazy! Perhaps me too. My time at J J Pearce was wonderful, for the most part, except for one particular field trip. I won't talk about that. I remember our Sociology Club and the enthusiasm of all the students. We did a couple Cultural Exchanges when students went to Madison for a day and then Madison students came to Pearce the next day. Government students had to write those letters every three weeks - not their favorite thing to do, but many got very involved in what was going on and expressed their opinions and ideas. Many letters were published in the Dallas Morning News. I hope all of you are still involved and working to make our nation better - it needs a massive effort right now. I'm a Grobanite, one of thousands who supports Josh's foundation. Josh is amazing, sweet, hilariously funny, awesomely talented and has the softest hair imaginable. Road trips have been so fun! Lots of Josh memories! Thanks for the calls, Missy! I still play piano and organ, I'm teaching myself to play the violin and I enjoy classical, country, jazz, R&B and contemporary music. I've had my share of amazing moments, fun times and tears - all the stuff that makes for great memories. Still making memories too but we'll have to talk in private. Memorable teachers from Central High School - Gus Sarras, Milton Day, Coach Grunwald, and, of course, BYRON MYERS - the greatest music teacher in the entire history of the western world. Byron, Susan and Dee Anna forever!
