Demetree's Story
Life
Graduating from Dorsey High School in 1957 seems so long ago. I hadnÂt really given much thought to the 50 years from then to now until I read about my reunion. The more profiles I read the more I thought about my 50 years.
I tend to think of my life in spurts or as the children grow or as the grandchildren grow. Taking the time to gather my photos for Classmates.com I found that I was enjoying the visit back in time. I was also pleased that I had started scrapbooking a few years ago because my photos were very handy. The hardest part was finding recent pictures of me because I am always the one taking the pictures.
1953 Arrived in Los Angeles from Detroit, MI
1957 Graduated from Dorsey
1957 - 1959 Attended Los Angeles City College
1960 I worked for the County of Los Angeles and Los Angeles Unified School District
1970 Moved to Fontana, CA for 10 years, remarried and had child #4 (Nura) at the age of 40. Worked for Press Enterprise Newspaper in Riverside, CA, for San Bernardion County School District and Pomona Unified School District. During this time I continued my education at Riverside City College.
1980 Moved back to Los Angeles and worked for Los Angeles School District again and then for the City of Beverly Hills. Retired from Beverly Hills in 1993.
1993 Moved to Bellingham, WA with my yhoungest daughter who was 13 at the time; worked at Western Washington University.
The move to Bellingham was really the beginning of my life.
1998 I graduated from Whatcom Community College with 2 degrees at the age of 59.
2001 I was baptized and became a born again Christian.
2002 Started a business in Bellingham with my mother . It is now operated by me and my youngest daughter.

at came from my grandfather. Weathers 1897 Marinade, BBQ sauce is sold in Whatcom County local gourmet quality food stores. This has been an inspiration to follow my mother's lead. I've worked in offices as a secretary or Administrative Assistant but I never realized how much I enjoy interacting with people until the business entered my live.
2004 Moved to Lynden, WA which is 15 miles north of Bellingham and 3 miles south (from my house) of the Canadian border.
Lynden is home to Washington State's largest Dutch settlement and is the heart of the region's farmland. Upon reaching the four-block span of Front Street, known as Dutch Old Town, visitors are greeted by a 72-foot tall working windmill connected to Dutch Village Mall, which features eighteen shops specializing in Dutch lace, wooden shoes, delftware and other imports. Waitresses in restaurants bustle about in native dress as they serve tasty Dutch meals with a warm smile and friendly service.
This is where IÂve settled. ItÂs quiet and peaceful. If you want excitement and entertainment you can go 2 hours south to Seattle or 1 hour north to Vancouver, BC.
IÂve learned to scrapbook and I also play Bocce Ball with LyndenÂs Community/Senior Center. IÂm active in my church, active with my two (local) grandchildren and LOVE the Seattle Mariners. I was not a baseball fan until I moved to Bellingham. What wonderful fans we have here in Washington. I go across the Canadian border at least once a month. The Northwest is a wonderful place to live. IÂm very excited to be here and canÂt believe IÂve been here as long as I have.
I usually visit California every 2-3 years, depending on how often my children come to this part of the county.
I hope this wasn't too boring but THAT'S MY LIFE!
