Denise's Story
Life
I teach Algebra for the William S. Hart Union High School District in Valencia, Calif. I have been in this district since 1996.
I began my teaching life as an English Teacher for St. Monica's High School in Santa Monica, Ca in 1974. I taught private schools for several years, even teaching Junior College at night then began public school teaching in 1984 with Burbank Unified. I taught for Luther Burbank Middle School for 14 years before transfering to Santa Clarita. Somewhere in between, I earned my math authorization and moved to Math.
I have one daughter from my first marriage, Robin, who works for the Univ. of Texas in Austin after receiving a MS degree from them. She loves Austin.
After my first husband died, I married my second husband who I imported from England. We have been married for 15 years and he is like living with Benny Hill. We moved onto 2.5 acres lot in 2002 overlooking a vineyard in Agua Dulce. I love the view from up top and it is so quiet. (Although we think the coyotes ate our koi!)

ince 1974, I still can't retire yet. But that is not so bad, I love being around kids!
Workplace
I teach. I love to teach. I am good at teaching. But, before I could teach, I got a job in insurance. I thought it would be very boring but I was in the Excess and Surplus Lines end of the business which is writing insurance for the weird and quirky stuff, like Lloyds of London. I did well in that business, until I was underwriting accounts and taking men out to lunch and working accounts. All the while I was going to Cal. State.-LA at night for my teaching credential. When I did go into teaching the first time, I spent my summers working in the insurance industry for extra money.
Now as a teacher, I find my 13 years of business experience really gave me special insights into what future students will face on the job market.
I am starting a web site for teachers who are looking for help to current teaching problems. Hopefully my 30 years of experience will help them be more successful. Check it out, teachers-kettle.info. due to go online in Jan. 05.
