Denise's Story
After Coolidge, I went to The Netherlands on the AFS Summer Program and lived with a Dutch family. I became fluent in Dutch & German. While there, we drove the Autobahn to Switzerland, Germany, France and Luxembourg. I still keep in touch with my Dutch family to this day.
After that, I went to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. for 1 year. Hated it!! I then worked part time and traveled the world full-time, going to such places as: England, Germany (several times - love those German men!!), India & Hong Kong.
I did return to school, to the University of Cincinnati and received my Bachelor's in Fine Arts in sculpture.
Sculpting doesn't pay the bills, so I learned the health insurance industry and have been working in that field since 1984. I have done temp work all over the country in such places as AZ, PA, WV, MN, NJ, TN, FL & NC.
I celebrated my 50th birthday (in 2004) by flying to Copenhagen, then taking a cruise up the Baltic Sea. We made stops in Estonia, St. Petersburg, Rus...Expand for more
sia, Helsinki, Finland and ending in Stockholm, Sweden.
I am currently retired (as of 4/21) from an international insurance brokerage firm located in Wash., DC. All our policies are underwritten by Lloyd's of London and by law, are only sold outside the US. My responsibilities included traveling overseas to our client groups and explain their policy benefits to them. These clients are located all over the world, and I appeared in person to provide a personal, human touch.
In the last 11 years, my company sent me to: Jamaica, Brazil, London, Budapest, Bucharest, Lithuania, Mali, Tunisia, Nicaragua, Cameroon, China, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Aruba, Lucaya, Indonesia, India, Aruba, Costa Rica and El Salvador.
It's truly been a world wind affair and I have loved every bit of it. I'm ready to slow it down now - a little. I'm looking to see what other adventures are in store for me. Maybe one day I'll make my way to Florence, Italy to see Michaelangelo's 'David' - the last stop on my bucket list!
