Graduated Purdue w/ Supervision Major in 1979. Social Security Administration in Hammond IN 1976-1986. Social Security Administration in Duluth MN 1986-2002. Retired from SSA. Read a Social Security insider's view at GetSocialSecurity(dot)info. Work at St Mary Medical Center in Duluth MN as Medical Records Analyst. Married Susan Ostrom 1972-1989. While I was getting older, she was getting younger. Divorced 1989 in Duluth MN. Four kids. * Damon 28 works as Firefighter and EMT for US Forest Service in Colorado. * Jacob 26 lives with me & attends Lake Superior College as Fire Safety Administration major. * Sarah 24 works as veterinary assistant in League City TX. * Margret 21 attends Nursing School in Texas. Married in 1997 to Bonnie Kaniewski. I dated her before dating my first wife and took Bonnie to her 1970 prom. She wrote to me 26 years after our breakup. We visited each other every 3 months for two years, living 500 miles apart. Her son Keith 19 lives with us. He's about to enter Army active duty when released from Army Reserve. I'm now marketing the internet as a paying hobby. I was friends with Roger Rollins, Richard Brommels, Bob Gyurko, Kathy Mueller, Gayle Fleischer, Bob Segally. My first love was Pam Day. Her parents broke us up by moving to another city. I have thought of her often over the years. I dated Sandy Robertson, but I was a jerk and hurt her feelings. Today, I apologize. I dated Carol Mack. I enjoyed her red hair, her blue eyes, her freckles, and her making me laugh. While I was in Coast Guard Boot Camp, she sent me a Dear John letter that arrived 18 months later. Maybe now she'll understand why I called her anyway when I got home. I wish her a good life. I tried to be the class clown. I still do, although I try to override the impulse. Because I graduated from Morton High School in Hammond, Indiana, I sell baby boomer Morton High School tee shirts at SchoolDazeShirts (dot)com . There are 4 styles of each shirt. Each displays the Morton High School Top Hat and "1964" on the front or back image. On August 1, 2002, I completed 30 years of government service. On August 2, 2002, I retired from a Social Security position that paid me 60000.00 dollars a year to spend most of my week opening mail, writing names on folders, and answering the phone. There was no exit interview to ask why a 55 year old with a useless college degree would retire from such a position. GetSocialSecurity (dot) info is my exit interview. My former Manager reports to an Area Director. She acts as an intermediary between the Regional Commissioner and District Managers in her Area. She has an Area Administrative Assistant and a Management Support Specialist to assist her. She appraises the performance of District Managers by reviewing their statistics results. g local offices to observe their day to day operations. I am told she has never worked in a local office. On January 15, 2002, she issued a memo titled **FY 2002 Workload Plan, Action .** It set work standards that I consider impossible for the staffing patterns within her Area. In a staff meeting shortly after January 15, 2002, my Manager read something his Area Director had written about reaction to her memo. I think it was a letter from her to the Regional Commissioner or to District Managers. She remarked that instead of embracing the new goals, people were giving her **the same old tired excuses.** She explained the employment contract as meaning that employees who could not meet the goals of their employer **should look for employment outside the agency.** I think my half of a contract with the Social Security Administration was to work as hard as I could for eight hours a day, to be efficient, and to suggest improvements. I have been granted 19 employee suggestion awards during my career. I do not feel that my half of the contract was to meet goals that became more ambitious while staff was declining. In any event, I think that the employer half of the contract is to provide the employee the resources to accomplish his mission. I do not think the President, the Congress, the Commissioners, or Area Directors have done that. I got tired of letting my overpayment cases get older, while everybody with a phone was my boss. I rarely got to do case reviews that would produce overpayments and terminations, because I spent most of my week opening mail and answering phone calls from people who wanted to tell me that their job or their workers compensation stopped. They, and my Manager, expected me to accommodate each of them first. Therefore, August 2, 2002, was my last day of work for Social Security. I now have a manageable job that pays me half of what I was paid at Social Security, while Social Security continues to pay me the other half of what I was paid at Social Security.
