Dennis's Story

I am DEFINITELY going to drop out of classmates (dot) com at the end of August 2010. I just joined a few years ago to find old BHS - CHS friends before the 50th reunion. Look for me on FaceBook and Skype, which are free. So Long . . . facebook (dot) com search by name Dennis Mennerich skype (dot) com user ID dnns_0227 / This is a work in progress so check back. Glad to see you are reading this! It means you are still alive and computer literate, unlike many of our friends who are neither. Moved from Newark OH to Bellingham MA in mid '47 and skipped ahead to the 2nd grade (so I'm a year younger than most of you). Went to South School(?) at Crooks Corners and then 8th grade at BHS building. I saw Zeke in L.I. NY summer of 07. I stayed 2 years at BHS and then family moved to Cumberland RI (I missed my friends and was so depressed), saw Sputnik 1 Oct 57, and graduated CHS in 58. Then went to URI in Kingston and got BS Electrical Engineering in 62 and MSEE in 66. Was in Sigma Chi. Stayed in grad school persuing PhD but had to leave in 68 to go on active duty in Army. Was a Captain when I went to Vietnam in 1970. Went to work for Uncle Sam in 71 at the Foreign Science & Technology Center which morphed into the National Ground Intelligence Center. Ran a few projects overseas. Traveled to Canada, Panama, UK, Germany, France, Greece, Israel, Syria, Australia, Austria and most of the States. I worked as all-source intel analyst in many different positions and subject areas and retired in 2004. Every day is a Saturday now. Married Marsha Dmytryshyn of Cranston in 62 and we are still madly in love. She graduated URI in 66, went to RICE, taught special ed, raised the kids, went back to UVA and ended up with a car...Expand for more

I always wanted to fly so Marsha gave me (Private Pilot) flying lessons for a present and the I used GI Bill to get Commercial Pilot with instrument and multi-engine ratings. Flew search & rescue with Civil Air Patrol for years and gave it up in 88 when we bought a vacation / weekend place in Canaan Valley WV. Built a bigger place there in 03 and spend about 1/2 our time in WV now, when we are not at home in Charlottesville, VA. Have been an SWL - short wave listener - most of my life. Got my amateur radio license in 03 and upgraded to Extra in 06. Enjoying lots of "Ham radio" in retirement. Call sign K4THE. Search for my callsign on qrz dot com.
