Dennis's Story
Life
Love to ride my old Shovelhead Harley. Working on it and riding at least once or twice a week. Ride the 50+ miles round-trip to work several days a month. Ride with the American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard as often as I can. A personal goal is to ride in Rolling Thunder in Washington, DC this year or next. (700,000 motorcycles in 2010, check it out on YouTube).
Still have a Model A Ford.
Finally taking flying lessons after all these years. Have my eye on a 1943 Stearman open-cockpit biplane. Rode in it a while back, doing loops, rolls, and hammerhead stalls. Exhilerating! I can always rent a Cessna. Wifie says she won't ride with me, even in a Cessna. I told her that I have duct-tape and I know how to use it.
Pets? Sold the "reef" tank when we moved. Have had horses over the years. None right now. Just one very spoiled "Rag Doll" cat.
My son works and plays in Phoenix. One grandson, lives and works nearby, and a 18-year-old granddaughter who lives with us and is a student at MCC.
Another granddaughter, now 15 months lives with my daughter and son-in-law in Carson City.
Still finding the need to work while developing the mining properties. I drive a semi much of the time hauling everything from heavy equipment to hot oil. Last winter, I drove semi on more ice and snow than I had ever seen, across Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Utah, California, New Mexico and Arizona.
Workplace
After 27 years at I.C.C.Co. and sister companies, doing miriad tasks including assignment as Dredgemaster on the world's largest mining dredge, dredging gold from the floor of the Norton Sound offshore from Nome, Alaska in 1987 and 1988, I finally decided that, after actually making millions for the majors, it was time to do some projects for myself and to the benefit of my family. Presently engaged in two excellent partnerships with some world-class people working on major projects in the U.S., Canada, and Honduras. If you know me, e-mail me and I'll tell you more.
I don't do resumes because they would sound like I am 120 years old. My career path has had some very interesting and exciting times and turns, from being a me...Expand for more
mber of the management team refurbishing the gigantic dredge in the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, followed by its operation in the Norton Sound, near Nome, to other travel and temporary assignments to places such as Finland.
Now, my own companies are engaged in developing projects in Northern Ontario, Utah, and Nevada. One of my companies has strong ties to Honduras.
After too many years of sacrifice and hard work (many friends and family members think that I am flat-out nuts), it is actually all coming together. Far bigger than even my wildest dreams, and I truly do have wild dreams. Funny how that works, Divine intervention and all.
Not together quite yet. I'm either the dumbest guy you know or one of the brightest (Ha!). Only time will tell . . . .
Military
Enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965, in the face of almost certain assignment to Viet Nam (perhaps the bravest thing that I ever did). Didn't end up in Southeast Asia until more than twenty years later, when my job took me to Singapore and Malaysia.
Honor graduate from my class at U.S. Army Quartemaster School at Ft. Lee, Virginia, assigned to a Field Artillery battalion at Wackernheim, Germany. Was transferred to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry at Kaiserslautern, Germany for two years. Returned to U.S. soil at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, where we activated the 6th Infantry Division in preparation for defense of the TET offensive in Viet Nam, early 1968, while occupying the 101st Airborne's barracks since they were already in Viet Nam.
We were to ship to Viet Nam near the end of the TET Offensive, but military objectives were accomplished before we went (no matter what the liberal media told the world along with John Kerry, guilty of treason but never charged, and Ted Kennedy), so we deactivated and I came home to Globe in August, 1968.
Now living in Mesa, working all over. Still pushing forward on the mining projects but have to keep beans on the table in the meanwhile. Being the eternal optimist, I still believe that we will be successful. I have partnered with some of the best people on the planet. I hope they would say the same thing . . . .
