dennis's Story

I live in Hickory Hills, Il,, have an MBA from Governor's State University, and served three years in the U.S. Army infantry. I was a salesman, a systems analyst and a programmer. I've been a member of Mensa for over 20 years. I retired at the age of thirty-five and for the past 25 years have traveled all over the world with and without my ex-wife. I live alone with 5 cats (crazy). I'm an avid skier and have skied in Japan (2 times), New Zealand, Slovenia, Bulgaria, France, Austria (4 times), Switzerland (twice), and Andorra. Also Oregon, Wyoming, Colorado, Canada, Michigan, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Life is GREAT! I just returned from Russia in September, Spain in February, Japan in March and four East European countries in May. It's GREAT! Trying to decide what I want to do if and when I grow up. Just went scuba diving in Jamaica, a great sport and beautiful scenery. Just returned from Colorado, great skiing! Leave for Italy in one week. Love it! Just spent 17 days visiting the Greek Islands, beautiful! Morocco is next. Just returned from Morocco, very interesting country. Only had two weeks to tour. Went skiing in Jackson Hole in January, Aspen in February, And Mammoth Mountain (Cal), (they had 55 FEET of snow) in March. It's a good trip if I don't break anything! Just returned Monday from Curacao. WARM! Finally got my Advanced Open Water Diver certificate. Talk about procrastination! Ski season is upon us. Love the sport, dread the cold! Just spent a week skiing in Park City, Utah. Sunny every day and around 30". Came home to snow and bitter cold. I don't live right! The secret to life is to keep moving. I'm going skiing in Whitefish, Mt. next week, Telluride, Co. in mid-March, and travelling to Paris and Amsterdam in April, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland in June, and Thailand in November. I have to figure out something for July to October. It's all on the credit cards so if I die I don't have to pay for it. If I don't die I'm in trouble! My trips to Telluride, Paris, Amsterdam, and the Baltic states were cancelled! This virus is VERY inconvenient! Stay healthy. Thailand also cancelled. Finally got to go skiing in March but had a rough time breathing because of altitude and lingering effects of bronchitis. Oh, well, next trip. Finally was able to travel again with protocols. Spend a week in Morocco again, fabulous hotels food, and WOMEN! Going to try Punta Cana in December. Booked 5 ski trips and Costa Rica for the 4th time. What the hell, it's only money! Spent a week in Punta Cana, 85 and sunny every day. Great scuba! Finally, got to ski on 1-8-22, dinky hills but good warm-up. Canada is next but a real hassle to enter. Canada was good skiing but a hassle. Had a major avalanche and stuck in the town of Golden for a day. Leaving for Telluride, Colorado for Chicago week, 270 people from Chicago area. Then its' Snowmass, Switzer and Costa Rica in May. I'm going to have to get a job or be one of those people begging on the street corner. I offered a dollar to one of them and he told me to keep it , that I looked like I needed it worse than him! Spent a week in Revelstoke, Canada; a week in Telluride, a week in Snowmass, and a week in Schwitzer, Idaho skiing. Beat to hell! I need warm weather! Finally, warm weather! Spent 8 days in Costa Rica where it was 88 degrees. Two of my cats died after eighteen years, very sad. You do get attached to them. (11--09--22) Just returned from 8 ...Expand for more
days in Fiji. Great trip but a long flight. Got to go diving, horseback riding, target shooting, and burnt bad on the FIRST day! The Fijians are really nice, friendly people and wait on guests like they ARE guests. Saw a really magnificent sunset on a dinner cruise. The sky was a golden aura with the clouds sitting on top of the blue Pacific like a surreal photograph! Never saw a sunset as mesmerizing. Skiing is next on the agenda! Three more cats have died who lived with me. Very sad and heart-breaking! Went skiing in Crested Butte, Co. last month and just returned after a week in So. Lake Tahoe, Nv. skiing (2-18_23) Next week it's Mammoth, Ca. for skiing again. Keep it up as long as I can! I'm cognizant of the fact that this profile is just a half-assed ego trip but, what the hell, it's fun to just post it even if it's just for my own edification. Mammoth was a bust, 700 inches of snow and no access to ski lodge. Spent 2 days in Reno, 4 hours at a fabulous auto museum of Harrah's. Skiied in Jackson Hole, WY this March and had a fantastic time at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar and the Silver Dollar bar. Packed with people and three great bands. Actually got out to dance rock and roll! Loved it but no stamina. The young lady who asked me to dance was pissed when I walked off the dance floor! Oh, well. Next up is a week in Punta Cana. Booked, again, a trip to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Krakow, and Warsaw Finally going on my birthday to South Africa for 16 days! Always wanted to go before the animals disappear. 6/16/23 - Just returned from a week in Samana, Dominican Republic (I never heard of it either). Had great weather but way too much airport time with connecting flights! Never again! Had my 12-day trip to the Baltic states and Poland, great tour but a total disaster with the airlines. Missed the flight to Warsaw and Lot wanted $1100 per person to take us later AND automatcally cancelled our return flight which left us not knowing how we were getting home. In Krakow they wanted another $1100 per person for a flight I had already paid for! In both cases I flew Lufthansa instead. When I arrived at La Guardia for my return flight the airline cancelled the flight and I spent the night sleeping on the floor in the airport! After waiting in long lines multiple times from 10:30 at night to after noon the next day I was put on stand-by FOUR times until I got a flight at 2:00 P.M. which then sat on the runway for 2 hours. In 25 years this is the worse trip I've had! 9/18/23 - Just returned from one of the best trips I've taken. Spent 17 days in South Africa, went on 7 safaris' (game drives), 3 on the rivers, saw herds of elephants, buffalo, hippos, lions, impalas, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, and other beautiful critters. Visited 4 countries, stayed in fantastic lodges, flew and drove to Table Mountain, Victoria Falls, Nelson Mandela's home and prison on Robben Island, and on and on! Fabulous!! Saw hundreds of vultures in a feeding frenzy, took a cheetah for a morning walk, visited Penguin island, ate vociferously and had a glorious time! 2/1/24 - Was booked to go skiing Panorama in Canada but cancelled because of operation for cancer (3rd time). It was -34 degrees in the village. Am I glad I didn't go? Going to try Mammoth Mt. again after being snowed out last year. Chicago week with 200 skiiers. MISTAKE! Chicago Week in Banff, Canada, last week. Very cold and 40 inches 0f snow in one week. Next year in Mammoth.
