Dewey's Story
I moved to Florida in 2009 to serve as the rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Dade City, which is about 35 miles Northwest of Tampa and 50 miles East of Orlando. St. Mary's is a wonderful parish of over 220 folks a Sunday in citrus and cattle country in the rolling hills (yes they have rolling hills) in Florida. St. Mary's is blessed with a wonderful music program and is a welcoming congregation. I am a Safeguarding God's Children trainer and have served as president pro-tempore of the Diocesan Review Committee and as a member of the Commission on Ministry.
I retired from St. Mary's October 1, 2018. I now help out at a small parish in Zephyrhills Florida.
Debi and I love our home and community and love living near Becca (our youngest daughter) and her husband Jarrod and our five grandchildren ...Expand for more
- my grandson Colin, granddaughter Abigiail Grace, our twin granddaughters Ella and Darla, and our newest grandson Everett.
I have completed my Doctorate in Worship Studies and I am now The Rev. Dr Dewey E Brown, Jr. I enjoy traveling to the Caribbean to visit Mayan ruins and to snorkel in my spare time.
I serve the community as the Police Chaplain for the Dade City Police Department, and also serve on the board of The Dade City Police Foundation, I am also a board member of Restored Hope, a 501(3) that serves the less privileged with a hand up not a handout.
I spent 26 years as a volunteer firefighter, having been a paid firefighter for 5 years when I was going to college and just out of school. Age and my wife convinced me to allow the younger brother firefighters to carry the load going forward.
