Diana's Story
When I graduated from LAH I headed down to Arizona State and got a degree in History with a minor in Business. I joined the Sales and Marketing team at HP that managed small computer products for the Pacific Rim and Australia/New Zealand. During that time I met my husband and we married in 1988. I joined Sun Microsystems in 1986 and began helping build their VAR channel. I eventually ended up running a small network strategy group that did a lot of negotiations with key vendors. It was very interesting and made me very aware of the competition for operating system and platforms. During my time at Sun I had two beautiful daughters, Lauren and Ryann. When Microsoft called and offered my a trip to Redmond to get to know them, I went to do competetive research. I ended up loving Seattle and the kind of work they were doing. I took some time off to spend time with the family before starting at Microsoft. Microsoft was an extraordinary experience. I was lucky enough to work very closely with Bill Gates for 3 years. After beginning at MS running the operating systems strategy group and then launching MSN, I moved toward the development side of the house and ended my career running the team that developed cross-product solutions for self diagnosis and repair of the software. When our third daughter was born in 1998 I began to revaluate my priorities, so in early 2000 I retired from Microsoft to become a full time mom. I quickly realized that I had the opportunity and interest in advocating for children. I joined the board of a couple children's...Expand for more
charities and volunteered at my children's school and around the Seattle area. My oldest daughter, Lauren graduates from Seattle Prepartory School (Jesuit) and will attend Santa Clara University next year, she is a great student and an ace lacrosse player, so she will play on their team next year. My next, Ryann is a junior and hasn't even begun to narrow down her college search, though like her sister she is considering smaller schools. My youngest is 10 and bright and happy. My kids call us the strictest parents around, I guess that's probably because my husband and I had lots of fun in high school. Overall I guess you could say I've had a pretty great life so far. My parents are still around and live in Los Altos, very close to my old house in the hills. Lisa, my younger sister by a year, lives in Mill Valley with her husband and six year old daughter. Alexandra also lives in Marin with her 10 year old daughter.
One of my closest friends is still Corinne Capiaux, who now lives in Pacific Pallisades with her film producing husband of 20 years and her three darling kids.
My husband and girls are the center of my life (and always were even during my busiest career moments). I am so proud of my girls who work hard at being good people and great students. My goal was always to raise a family to be happy and to like themselves and be kind to others. I feel like at least with my first two I have accomplished my goal.
I keep in the loop via Theo's great emails and hope to make the next reunion. Hope all is well with my former classmates.
