Diane's Story

Life Married for 23 years which ended. We had 2 children daughter and son. My children are doing well. Carrie is my daughter is working at getting her RN and Jay my son is working at Cactus Jacks still "trying to find what he wants". I have remarried and have been for 3 years. My daughter and her children live with us. The grandkiddies are a big part of my life and I help her with babysitting. I try to keep the kids doing an activity. Anthony does sports depending on the season and Ilyana is in dance but wants to do gymnastics. Christopher is only 3 and has separation issues with his mommy so he will be trying something next year. I would like to have him in gymnastics with his sister. School I tried a couple of different fields, computer programming, not for me no feed back, then I tried computer sales, it was way to stressful for me, a woman in a man's world, no thanks. I had toyed with the idea of nursing school but not too sure that I wanted to do it. I applied to St Joseph's school of practical nursing and got accepted. I love working as nurse I feel like I am doing something good with my ...Expand for more
life, I want to go back for my RN but can't seem to find the right time to do it. Someday I will. During these past few years I have taken a couple of courses that have helped enhance my knowledge. I am IV certified and have taken a couple of courses in End of life and pain management for cancer patients. I have been working to help the facility implement guidelines for hospice but so far it is just in the planning stage. Money is everything. I should really go back to school for my RN. I have looked into certification in geriatric nursing and hospice care and will apply when the time is right. Life is just so busy Workplace I have worked in many areas of nursing during these 11 years. I worked at the VAMC in Manchester on the Medical/Surgical floor, I was there for 4 years and left because of cut backs, I worked for a few agencies at different facilities and currently work at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center in Manchester. I really enjoy it there. I am the 3-11 charge nurse on the Longterm care floor. I have 38 residents and usually 4 LNA's. I don't expect that I will leave there any time soon, it is like taking care of family.
