Dolores's Story
Life
For those of you who want to know what I've been up to, here it goes. I joined the Army January 1987 and attended basic training and advanced individual training in Ft Jackson, SC. My first duty station was HHC, DISCOM, 1st Armored Division in Germany. After two years at that assignment, I received orders to HHC, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Ft Lewis, WA. It was a fantastic assignment after I was over the shock of working in a unit that had no women. I got divorced and went to the Parachutist Course (airborne school) in Ft Benning, GA, was promoted shortly thereafter and remarried two years later. I then found myself a new job with 7th ID (Fwd) and realized that the military was not for me (at least leg land was not). After serving for over seven years and having my second child, I was honorably discharged from the Army. I took a positon as an interpreter and sales rep for the worlds largest exporter of salmonid eggs (a great job!) with Troutlodge! I went all over South America and met great people. In, 1997, Mark received orders and off we went to Okinawa, Japan. We lived in Oki for three years. Got a fantastic job with the the 18 WG/SJA's office. I made some wonderful life long friends and traveled all over Asia (the memories...priceless). Again, Mark got orders and off we went to Ft. Bragg, NC and here we deceided to stay. My family is doing great! We could not have asked for better kids! Catlyyne is a USMA (West Point) 2009 graduate and a commissioned officer in the US Army. She is getting ready to take off again and we will not see her until Sep 2012! We are going to miss her! We are so proud of her accomplishments! Mark Christopher is a Junior at Pinecrest High School and continues to train. Mark Christopher is a competitive swimmer (the breast stroke is his favorite) and he works part-time. Mark (my hero) has now retired after 21+ years of active duty service. Mark along with Curtis (both retired from Special Forces) are the Co-Owners of Spartan Blades (check out the new website)...Expand for more
! I currently assist them at spartanbladesusa.com (check out the knives)when time permits. We have made Aberdeen, NC our home. I am self-employed, a part-time student (just received my AA and have transfered to UNC-Pembroke) gotta finish my degree sometime this century) and a full time credentials manager at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft Bragg. I am looking forward to visits from my family and friends. We enjoy traveling, good food, and sharing good times with family and friends (you know who you are)! Stay in touch!
Military
I joined the US Army in in January 1987. I went to basic training and advanced individual training at Ft. Jackson, SC. My first duty station was in Germany (1st Armored Division Support Command). I lived near Neurenburg for two years and received orders for my second duty station at Ft. Lewis, WA (1st SFG(A)). Once I got over the initial shock of working mostly with men and having to really get in shape, I enjoyed this assignment. It was the best! While assigned to 1st SFG(A), I attended and graduated jump (airborne) school (pinned silver wings on my chest), earned Canadian Jump Wings, worked with the most professional soldiers I have ever been around and most of all met my husband and hero Mark. I then received orders to move to a different unit, but still was able to stay in Ft. Lewis (7th ID(Fwd)...after spending a year at the 7th ID, I decided not to reinlist in the military. Leg land was not what I would consider my favorite assignment. I was spoiled at 1st SFG(A). The men and women that I worked with at 1st SFG(A) are the most intelligent, hard working and trained professionals! The Army has provided me with life-long skills! I am proud to have served my country and extremelly proud that our kids will follow in serving as well!
Eventhough it is not popular to have "sheepdogs" in our mists, the sheep will always cower behind the sheepdog when the wolf is knocking at their door. So thank a service member for volunteering to do the job that keep our freedoms the way they are.
