Don's Story
Life
Hi,
I miss all my friends from schood days and I know I will remember you. After graduating in 1954 from Pearisburg High School in SW Virginia I told five of my best friends, "ask not what our country can do for us, but what can we do for our country." "We don't know nutting we can do," they responded. "Well I do," I said; "lets join the Air Force!" Confidentally they followed as I led the way to the recruiting sargents office and we were soon on our way. I was supposed to get a direct commission to Captain after "Boot Camp." However I tested in the range of a Chicken Colonel and the commanding officer, General Halftrack said I'd have a nice safe job serving as an Air Force Colonel. "No," I said, "I want to serve in the lowest grade with the comman Airman." I didn't have to accept the commission and I agreed to become an Air Traffic Controller. Prior to my discharge, I married my first wife Nan a school teacher. The girl of my dreams. Sorta li...Expand for more
ke a night mare. We went to Memphis, TN where I worked as an air traffic controller with the FAA and she taught school for two years. Patty came first, then Denny. After five years in Memphis we transfered to Hampton, GA. in 1963. One of our subburbs is Atlanta 30 miles to the north. Nan retired as a teacher and me as an air traffic controller. We are both getting government checks We have 3 Grand-kids. They are well above average and not just the every day run-of the-mill grandchildren. There smart, say the cutest things, never throw temper tantrums, go to bed when told, and eat there carrots, enough said there. Despite expections from my former school mates I have managed to never be incarcerated. My Rabbi says it's OK to have one small frosted mug of beer with pizza as long as I go to confession the next day. Me and the first wife are still together and we expect to live happyly ever after. THE END
