Don's Story

I was at St. Pat's for 3 very happy years - 1947-49 I think it was. I met some wonderful people, made some good friends plus was lucky enough to date a couple of lovely young ladies and then "went steady" with the very sweet Rusty Killilea until I moved to my dad's house in Nashville for my senior year. I think that move was to keep me from staying in St. Pat's for another 4 years. Later I spent a short time at the U of Tennessee, joined the Navy Reserve in Knoxville when the Korean War started and was promptly called to active duty along with several other would-be athletes (I thought i was going to b...Expand for more
e their shortstop). I got into flight training bacause they were badly in need of new pilots to get the WWII vets home to be instructors rather than old fighter pilots and my group finished pilot training one day and got on a carrier going to Korea the next day. Or so it seemed. I came home after 2 years, unblemished thank God. My first wife and mother of my 3 children died of cancer many years ago and I have been married to the former Zoe Ann Olsen (Olympic diver 1948 & 52) 40 years. We have had our home in Stuart Florida for 22 years, are reasonably healthy and very happy. Happy sailiing, y'all.
