Dona's Story
I was short and wore glasses. My last homeroom was in the room used by the cooking classes. I went to Cass Tech. in Science and Arts for a year after graduating Greusel. came impossible. I finally went to the U of M Engineering School and got a B.S.E.(Engineering Science) in 1985. I had almost completed a Master of Bioengineering when I ate ice cream just before it was recalled for being contaminated with a bacteria called Listeria Monocytogenes. I was in excellent health but got very ill and went to the only Emergency Room in Ann Arbor (at the UMMC). I was insured because I had been paying health insurance for years. They said I had a virus without doing any tests and sent me home. I was too sick to argue with them about it. I have been sick ever since and am now diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. With all my education and business skill and experience, you would think that I could successfully complain about this. Think again!
