Donald's Story
My wife, Rachel,and I continue to live in rural Taiwan not far from the Taiwan Straits. Here, it is primarily intensive farming of many sorts.
Recently the community celebrated the birthday of the main god here. It was quite noisy, smoke filled and crowded. None of us had seen this many people in town. It was a very real reminder that we serve different masters.
Taiwanese are great people - very friendly, accepting and caring. I always miss them when gone for a while.
My oldest loves US city life. The two younger guys start their second year of college soon. Who knows when the next time will be to see them other than on SKYPE.
Our work structure here has changed. I am now known as Taiwan Team Leader for the Christian and Missionary Alliance. There is no Leadership Team but rather an Advisory Team. 2012. We will see what happens after that! We will have another 6 months before another US assignment.
As a gift to the community I am hoping to have competative horseshoe pits built in the local park. People here don't know this game and it will be fun to teach and play. Men need some healthy actiivties in which to partcipate. After getting the green light from the community leaders it will be raising funds time. Rachel will be teaching a Western cooking class again soon.
I was so pleased to go back to LW and find that they teach Mandarin Chinese. It was fun to talk to the class and meet the teacher who is from Taiwan. She is a very capable teacher who is patient and wise in her approach to the students. Anyone remember our German teacher?
Rachel and I now have 30 years of marriage of which to boast. Maybe next year we will finally be able to do something special together. Every other year it seems we are in meetings of one sort or another.
