Donald's Story
1985 August 31, 1985, I awoke that morning to find the energy of the summer burring away quickly. Needing some excitement I joined the Navy Seals. After finding I had partaken of the electric cool-aid I was shown the door.
So I joined the Army. After informing Chris Peterson of my plans he decided to go with me to the Army. We had great fun in the blistering sun of Fort Jackson that fall. We lived in the oldest WW11 Barracks still in operation in the USA. We also had the toughest drill sergeants. I was put in charge of my platoon after telling my platoon leader to get out of my face. Chris and I went to AIT (advanced Infantry Training) in Augusta GA.
As luck would have it this place had the second oldest WW11 barracks in operation in the USA, and the only AIT run by drill instructors, out side of actual infantry. It was as if we never left for Jackson. Of course I was put in charge of a squad again. When training was over we were held up three weeks while awaiting new orders. So I had a Keg party that lasted three weeks. I always invited the sergeants, and they always came.
Finally got shipped off to Germany. I should not say shipped off. I begged for Germany. So I lived in Germany for two years. Traveled all over Europe and learned German, later I study this in University. After my time was up, I came home.
Now things really got fun. More to come.
