Donna's Story

I am currently living in Cresson, Pa. That is an hour south of Clearfield. I moved here a year and a half ago. I left 15 acres and a 2 year old house for a double corner lot in a 1928 house. Why? for my sanity. I now know my answer to the question "would you rather live in paradise alone or in town with friends"? the answer is when you are alone it doesn't matter how much you have you are alone. And that my friends is not paradise after all. Now I live in a town a little smaller than Clearfield and I am finding it to be better and better by the minute. I hope I never find it to be anything other than that. I still don't have the deep, close friendships that I so need, but I do have friendly, familiar faces everywhere I look. And that brings me peace. And I know that it takes time to build a friendship so I will be patient. I have a step son that is 23 and he has given me a 6 month old grand daughter. I also have a son that is 12 1/2 and a daughter that just turned 7. I have been a consultant for The Pampered Chef for a year now and about 2 months ago I started working for the school district, I am a substitute Teachers aide. I work in all grade levels. I do one on one support and group. I work with special needs children and kids that just need a little extra attention and learning support. After high school I moved to Lancaster, Pa with my sister to wait til I was old enough to go into the Air Force. I planned to go in for 6 years and while in get some basic college courses out of the way. Then after the 6 are up go to college to be a nurse and then re enlist as an officer and make the military my life. I hoped to meet someone and marry and have ...Expand for more
kids. But that dream died 18 months into it. I did join the Air Force and I loved it. But, I developed a medical condition where my shoulders would dislocate multi-directionally at any time for no appearant reason. So they gave me a medical retirement. So I am technically retired, I do get a pension and while it is not much it is enough to not have to work and be comfortable. I returned to Lancaster because I felt it had more to offer me than Clearfield did. That is where I met my husband 18 years ago. In 1995 when my son was 3 months old we moved to Potter county where we had 3 years earlier bought property (his parents lived up there and we liked visiting the area). It was in 2001 I had my daughter and in 2003 we finally built my dream house (but as I mentioned above when you are lonely a dream house can turn into a nightmare). So in Jan 2006 we packed up and moved to Ebensburg and rented a house for 6 months til we shopped around for a not just a house but a home and a hometown. My husband is currently driving a coal bucket tri axle truck and while truck drivers are usually not rich we are doing just fine. I only work for the school on average 1-2 days a week for minimum wage and I have on average 1 Pampered Chef show a month. So needless to say it is more of a hobby than a job. I have kept in touch with a few of our classmates and recently got in contact with a few more. I love finding out who every one has becaome. And to see what direction there lives have taken them. I have gone through some dark places in my life, but I know I wouldn't be where I am today if I were to change any of it so I won't wish for it to be any different than it is and was.
