Donna's Story

Life December 5, 2007...well there are eight more days until I turn 56. I remember (as we all can, I'm sure) when I was 11 or 12 yrs. old, making a statement that I didn't want to live past the "old" age of 50. Wow, look at me now! Like all of you, we get to this age and reflect back on the years gone by, wondering if we accomplished some, most, or all of what we had hoped for. We think about the dreams we had, with high hopes that we would do (or become) something special with our lives (life). And then there are the what ifs...like if I could do it all over again what would I change if given that chance? For now, my interest (besides day-to-day living events) is to try to make the best of each and every day, to touch a person's life as I am able...whether it be a phone call I make, a letter I write, or a simple e-mail that I send. I hope my classmates will visit my profile and drop me a note, if for no other reason than to simply say hello. ********************************************************* From 1970 onward... Well, this one's easy. I married Larry Stevenson in 1970 (fellow Conradian). We were together 7 years before I had to throw in the towel. We had one son when I was 22 (Larry, Jr). I have no knowledge of my ex's whereabouts at this point in time. I married 19 years later and after 1 year called it quits. I lived in Norfolk, VA, for 6 yrs. during which time I passed the Nat'l ACT exam for real estate and rec'd my license. I also became a medical transcriptionist (a good one at that), started my own business with freelance work (The Logos Express)and became professionally involved on a state and national level. I moved back to DE in 1992 and started with the duPont Hosp for Children. During my 10 years there, I took the role of supervisor with a staff of 8. I started a Delaware chapter of the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT)with the help of two co-workers which lasted 3 yrs until the officers folded it due to lack of participation for new officers to keep it going. We made our mark by taking first place in the annual newsletter contest for AAMT which made the news among members nationwide. I do consulting work for small physician offices, and do technical writing of work-related manuals. While at duPont I was fortunate enough to have had 2 years of management skill-building workshops which aids in the technical writing aspect of what I do. I write short stories. Have written a children's book (unpublished as yet). I have written numerous articles for Delaware's chapter called FSAAMT that were also used in other chapter's newsletters. I attended a meeting for a PA chapter one year and the write-up with photos was published nationwide by AAMT. On a different note, my father died in 1972 (age 45) of a massive heart attack; my mother died in 1996 (age 71)from stroke complications. My parents did indeed make a difference in my life and I miss them terribly. My son now resides in Norfolk, VA. Though I hate the separation, I don't have it in me to make another move to be closer. Look for updates at another time. Ah yes, this is another time...almost December 2007. I am happy connecting with former classmates, being able to share viewpoints with them and share old school stories. I hope fo...Expand for more
rmer students will respond to my mail if for no other reason than to simply say hello and let me know how they are doing. I'm getting ready to turn 56 on 12/13/07, am retired on disability, and feel the need for more growth in my life...to what extent or comprise of the how/what, I have no idea at this point in time. I would like to travel to Italy or France while I am physically and mentally able to appreciate the trip. School I had a huge crush on Mr. Daniel Kelly, my 5th grade teacher, who was also a big inspiration. When he died, I fell apart. He reminded me in looks and character of my father. Boy, try to remember teacher names...Miss Stewart from 2nd grade inspired me because she was so patient and even-keeled. Miss Sikorski for Spanish was great and I'm saddened she is now gone as I am too with the loss of Miss Colonna. My happiest times were grade school and being on the playground with the girls from different classes. I really MISS Lynn Ulary. We became good friends. Her family moved [I believe] because her father was transferred. Anyone knowing her whereabouts, I would be greatly appreciative. Cindy Williamson is another. Her grandfather was wonderful to chat with...such a stoic individual. I'd like to find: Karen Doran, Deborah Shannon, Kathy and Margie King, Linda Colbourn, and the rest I'll add as I go along. I was able to keep in touch with Janice Graves, Laura Malandruccolo; and Debbie Stewart for one get together over lunch. I'd feel blessed to get back in touch with Debbie. Sheila Colton [Tiberi] and I are still best childhood friends and talk frequently. As far as crushes on boys, I'd have to say we had many "attractive" guys in our grade range for junior high, but I can't say I had crushes on any with the exception of Donnie Henry of which my crush was just one of many. If one were to ask me why making contact with classmates is so important, it is because they represent part of what's best in me. Each and every student supports the other, much like branches and limbs on a tree. Each student offers friendship, knowledge, advice, and learning tips that carry each one of us through a lifetime. Most of us would have to say it was by parental planning or happenstance that we ended up going to the same school. But fate or a higher plan really renders the framework of the school(s) we become enjoined in/with. My sincerest hope is that with any contact that follows through, I let that particular student know that I was one voice of many who remembered them and that he/she indeed made a difference in my life. I truly miss my school days and miss the students whose footsteps echoed through the hallways along with the clamor of bells ringing, their laughter and chit-chat. If I had the opportunity to do it over again, I would be a better role model, a better student, and I would be involved in as much as possible that would enable me to have more one-on-one contact and get to know my classmates where I was more the one giving. College I was fortunate to have started at DelTech, but transferred credits to U of D. I was matriculated for 1 yr. part-time and carried a double major in English and Philosophy. At this point in my life, I'd like to earn an Assoc Degree in Art History and forget the rest. Donna
