Donna's Story

Life Hi! After leaving MFHS in 1960 I attended Farmington State Teachers College and graduated in 1964. I taught in Westbrook for a while before moving to Colorado to complete a Masters Degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1973. In 1974 I married Louis TePoel and worked as a reading specialist in a junior high while he finished medical school in Denver. Then in 1980 I completed a Doctorate in Education from the University of Nothern Colorado in Greeley. I enjoyed teaching college classes in Wyoming and North Dakota before moving to Virginia in 1988. We have two daughters. Jamie is 23 and graduated from Virginia Tech in the spring of 2000. She is doing graduate work in England for a year before starting vet school in Virginia this August. Our second daughter, Sarah, is a senior in high school and will attend the College of William and Mary this fall. It would be great to hear from anyone from the class of 1960. July, 2005 I see it is time to update this information. The girls are now 27 and 22. Jamie had a serious accident a few years ago and had to take a year off from vet school for medical treatment. She still has problems but is finally in her 4th and last year of vet school. Sarah graduated from the College of William and Mary in May, and started her masters program in education at the College of Charleston in South Carolina in June. She will be married October first to a boy she met at William and Mary. He is now in his last year of medical school in South Carolina. Louis is working at our local hospital and looking forward to retirement (when the girls finish graduate school!) We have enjoyed our time with them though. August, 2006 I see it is again time to update a bit. Sarah is married and now completing her last semester in her Masters program at the College of Charleston in SC. She will graduate in December. Her husband graduated from medical...Expand for more
school in May and is now a resident in internal medicine in El Paso, TX. They bought a house there and Sarah will join him after graduation in December. Our older daughter, Jam, finished three years of vet school, and passed her national boards. However, her medical condition after the accident did not allow her to complete the last clinical year, and she finally had to withdraw for medical reasons. She hopes to finish at some point, but that is not certain at this time. She is working on our farm training horses and teaching riding lessons. She has recently started dating a wonderful young man, and we hope things will work out for her. This is a transition time for us. Louis has had to make some cutbacks in work after his open heart surgery a few years ago, and I am doing well after cancer surgery about the same time. God willing we will continue to do well with each checkup. I thought I had posted this bio before, but after checking today realized it was only posted on my high school site. I would love to hear from anyone from the class of '64! September, 2009 It is time to update again! Jam (Jamie)has almost completed a master's degree in Agricultural Education from the University of North Carolina. Hopefully she will be finished by next year and can complete it on line. She started teaching Biology and Ecology this fall at Graham High School in Bluefield, Virginia. (She was able to do this since she completed two BS degrees from Virginia Tech as an undergraduate --one in Biology and one in Amimal Science.) She seems to be enjoying teaching. She has a home down the road from us in Tazewell, Virginia. Sarah taught first grade while in El Paso, TX. Her husband, Chris, finished his internship in Internal Medicine in June and (since he is also a Captain in the Army) he was transferred to Hawaii in July. We look forward to visiting then there in the future!
