Doris's Story
After High School, I went to Hamline University where I majored in psychology and elementary education, knowing I wanted to be a teacher. I also met John, my husband-to-be, at Hamline and we married in 1969. He started with a GE Financial Training Program in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and I taught French at an Elementary School in Stockbridge, Massachusetts for two years. My first pregnancy and the school doing away with their French program coincided, and that was the end of my teaching career. We had a little girl and two years later had a boy. My husband's job took us to Albany, NY; Westerville, OH; Syracuse, NY; Raleigh, NC; and ...Expand for more
Flemington, NJ. I had a lot of volunteer jobs during that time as well as part-time jobs in retail, social work, and a non-profit executive position. When John retired we bought a house on the Chesapeake Bay and a sailboat and skiff to play with. It was a fun time but we missed our children and especially grandchildren. Jennifer has a baby girl and a 3-yr. old and lives in California, and Johnny has three children, 7, 5, and 4, and they live in Michigan. We chose to move to California to be near our daughter and her children. We currently are growing pinot noir and chardonnay grapes for a hobby and enjoying the California lifestyle.
