Doug's Story
(Updated Oct-2010)
I'm still living here in the the OC with the wife and kidder. Still working too much but saving some time to travel and have fun. Still Havasu-ing as much as possible, although not in the winter. The kidder is doing great. She loves school for it's social value...takes after her father that way...but she is doing well.
I have made some huge changes in my life and life is now more simple & serene than ever. I dissolved my partnerhip and went back to the basics. I have narrowed my practice to mostly mediation cases. I still litigate, but prefer to negotiate Divorce settlements any time I can. I find it much more satisfying and less stressful. And, I get a lot more referrals from hapilly mediated divorces than angry litigated cases by far. If you know anyone who needs Divorce or Family Law advice, have them call me or shoot me an email, I am always willing to give a little free advice.
I started taking flying lessons not long ago. I have a video cli on my Facebook page. I am about half way through the private pilots training and about to solo. Scared, but confident....I think. It is a blast, mello as heck, but a blast. I hope to be able to fly out to Havasu next summer instead of making that ugly 4 1/2 hour drive any day.
I am still receiving regular hello's from many, and that is always fun. I just heard from a friend I haven't talked to since the early 80's and it was fun to catch up.
Life after High School:
After high school, I went right into college, but about that very same time, I found a great job and decided I liked the income more than school, so I quit college.
Early on in Adult-hood, I changed jobs a bunch, went into, and quickly back out of the Navy, then found the beauty of self-employment. I was a "pool-man" right out of the Navy. That was waaayy fun, (some of the stories you have all heard are true)... Then, I went into the timeshare business in Newport Beach and later did a year long stint in Puerto Vallarta, which was one of the best years ever. Then I got a real estate sales license and did real estate loans and later private investigating....which is waaaayyy more boring than you see on TV. I finally decided to make a respectable human out of myself and went back to school.
School and Career:
Later, I found that school was still enjoyable for me. I always enjoyed the excitement & challenge of learning. I stayed in school, and then stayed in school some more, went on to grad school and graduated Law School in 1998. I immediately went into "Family Law" (Divorce, Custody, Support, etc.). I always joke by telling people, I do "Divorce and all that fun stuff," but I really do enjoy my work.
A couple years ago, I moved my office to a location very close to our home. I don't drive a freeway to work and can get to the office in less than 5 minutes. NICE!! I ...Expand for more
ran away from the high rent district, settling down a bit. Fewer clients, better cases, and back to doing all the work myself. I know my cleitns prefer that.
Family:
I am happilly and adoringly married to my wife of 8+ years, and I have a tennage daughter. I know every father says this, but she is beutiful...and I am now reaping that which i sowed when I was in hogh school....God help me! She is a great student, a great daughter, and growing into a great young lady. We are very proud of her.
My wife and I met and became engaged in 6 weeks...YIKES!! We have been married for over 8 years now. We had both been single for ever and we had been through it all before and sincerely felt we knew what we wanted. It appears we were right, and we are very lucky. We are best friends and we still "belly laugh" every day. We promissed each other that we would do that, and we still do.
Fun for us:
We love to travel and vacation. Vacations are almost always in the sun and sand. We have a home in Havasu, and we go there several (many, many) times a year...the "boys" and I go a lot more than the "family" goes.
But, our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE place to play is South, and East of Florida...... Anywhere in the Carribean. Or "everywhere" in the Carribean. From Bermuda (I know; neither south of Florida, nor in the Carribean) all the way down to Aruba and Curacao. We've seen most of it, and we have found very few places we DON'T love. It is simply gorgeous down there. We love the quaint little cities and most of the people, not just the sun, the beaches, the boating, the shopping or the diving. We absolutely love all of it. We intend to retire down there, but that will take a couple years longer now thanks to the drop in the economy.
Enough about me and us, send me a note via this system and tell me what you have been doing, even if we were just aquaintences, it's always fun to hear from old friends, neighbors and people from my old neighborhoods. I would especially love to hear from someone from the Navy. Give me a Hello...who's out there? I Hope to hear from more of you.
And by the way....
If any of you have a legal question regarding Divorce, Custody, Visitation, Child Support, Spousal Support, even Domestic violence or even a minor Criminal issue, what better way to re-acquaint ourselves than to call or E-mail?
I really am happy to give you a little free advice. By the way, just by mentioning your issues to me, we will have buile an "Attorney-Client" relationship, and it is locked in place forever. Therefore, nothing is ever shared with any other. My office is now in Northern OC. Look me up (Google Yorba Lind Divorce Attorney, or Orange County Divorce Attorney) You can't miss me. The phone is good forever. Give me a call.
Consultations and "Hello's" are always free.
I wish you all the very best.
