Douglas's Story
Life
I graduated HSB high school 1975 with self-esteem in tatters.
Four (out of 5) years at CMR St Jean helped a lot - way too many stories! Like when Mike fell in the puddle after an illicit afternoon of drinking - and couldn't get up because his greatcoat soaked up all the water...
I "studied" English at Queens; graduated 1981.I had planned to go to law school, but my marks were more "party" oriented.... :-)
So I worked on the ships for a year and a half, married Carol Watson in January 1982 and went into McMaster MBA fall 1982 (GMAT score compensated for low marks I guess), graduating May 1984 with a pack of great new friends. We moved to Uxbridge and started a family.
I joined Reed Newsprint in customer service group, became manager, then unemployed. Got attached to the only PC before I was tossed, so bluffed my way into GE Lighting systems group in July 1988. They were replacing systems with SAP, so I thought that would be a smart move.
We had three girls by Dec 1990, but life changed in March 1991 - discovered I was married to a lesbian. Talk about too much in common....
I left GE to do independent SAP consulting. I'll skip over the part about the French girl who....

r 3 days. Of course, I married her as soon as I could. She was born/raised in Sarajevo, with two young girls so we have 5 in total - though not so young anymore. Most are married or partnered, and grandkids are my number one pleasure. Who knew?
In Feb 1994 I joined IBM's new SAP consulting group and floated up with the growth to the role of Principal - selling and delivering SAP solutions. After 17 years, I moved on. For nearly nine years now I have been a Director at Cognizant, a large US based IT consulting firm, selling and leading SAP systems implementations.
I had spent most weeks travelling to clients all over the world; I know most airports pretty well.... Since the COVID mess I have mostly worked remotely and travelled very little - a nice respite and change, as I rarely had time for all the things I would have liked to do. It's my friendships and family that suffered most.
When I passed 50, I realized just how completely unimportant my high school trials were.
Life has been pretty good to me, though I must admit I am surprised how a putz like me managed to make so many sensible choices.
Now that I am 65 and trying to retire, I am deeply focused on Hedonism, enjoying all those things I missed so much of.
No, I don't buy lottery tickets.
