Douglas's Story
Life
I've wandered along a path that I never would have guessed back in school. I went off to college to find that what I wanted to do had changed. I then chased a dream in the military, found I liked it, and spent 10 years in. Now I'm working in the field associated with my life long hobby. I've traveled the Pacific rim during my time in the Navy and settled in San Diego for a few years before moving to my current home in Cincinnati, OH. Life has been fun and interesting and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next.
School
Little did I know back then where I would be now or how I got here. The seeds were planted though. I was in Student Council. One of my big hobbies was computers. And I always questioned which magnet I should have been in. I remember a lot of really neat people from my high school days. It's hard to believe that 20 years have passed since I graduated from high school. I'm really looking forward to the reunion and hooking up with some long lost friends.
College
I started going to CSUN in Fall of 1985 and dropped out of college after the Spring of 1987. My years at Northridge are special to me. I met my wife while going there and pledg...Expand for more
ed SAE while there. Good memories all. More recently, I finished my degree at University of Phoenix. Now the question is, do I go on?
Workplace
Right after high school I did the department store thing for a bit and then found my calling in computers. I worked as a Programmer Analyst for a bit before I entered the Navy for 10 years. After the Navy, I worked at a number of failed startups and as a Navy contractor. Now I'm working for a university as a systems administrator. It's been a wild, but rewarding ride and I'm looking forward to whatever may lie around the corner.
Military
My decision to join the military was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. It helped me mature, focus, and solidify who I was and where I wanted to be. I spent 10 fruitful years on active duty and got out as a First Class Petty Officer (AT1). After I got out, I joined the Naval Reserves (I couldn't and didn't want to throw away 10 years) and had the honor of being advanced to Chief Petty Officer (ISC). I am now serving as a Lieutenant Junior Grade (LDO) and as the Awards officer for my unit. So far it's been challenging and fun and I'm looking forward to continuing my service.
