Dustin's Story

Life Met my wife back in high school in the school band program. We didn't hit it off right away, in fact I remember she rather didn't like me, thought I was a dork. Going through the ropes of high school and finding myself we ended up getting together in June of my graduating year, she asked me out, and we've been together every since. June 5th 2004 was the best day of my life as I said "I Do" for life to my wonderful wife after a 6 year courting. We bought our house a year and bit before our wedding, and we currently have two little cats to keep us busy until children arrive. School I started my school life at Ecole Lansdowne School in the French Immersion program from Kindergarten to the end of Grade 2. A new school opened up closer by so off to Stanley Knowles School I went with my two brothers following suit. From Grade 3 to the end of Grade 8 I finished off my French Immersion schooling. Grade 9 (S1) approached with a new program change, the International Bachlaureate (IB) program was a challenging fast-paced advanced education curriculum which brought the end of most of my Grade 12 (S4) level courses by the end of my Grade 10 (S2) year. I joined the Concert and Jazz Band programs playing various intruments from Tenor Saxophone to Baritone Saxophone with concerts gallore and competitions in which we placed high in the ranks with triple gold some years. I graduated in Grade 12 (S4) with a 36 Credit standing (28 needed to graduate) and decent average. College Red River College was my choice for post-secondary education, where I found my calling in the Information System Technology course. The class I called home to 2 years of my life found myself and my classmates pioneering a new program for the College. We learned a lot of things from our teachers of the IT industry, and taught a few of them a few things they didn't know as well. The structuring of some of our self-directed projects made for great experiences in developing our learning ability that would help us for the future. Good times, great friends and lots of techie work. Sp...Expand for more
ecializing in Networking and Information Systems, I excelled in learning operating systems from Windows NT, 2000, to Novell and Linux. Setting up servers and clients in various differnent topologies with equipment varying from switches to routers, cabling of cat5e to fiber optics. Pretty cool stuff. I later went back to Red River after graduation to start the Cisco CCNA courses to learn the advanced training Cisco has to offer on the networking front. I'm currently studying for my certification in CCNA, A+ and potentially Novell's CNA and Microsoft's MCSE certifications as well. Workplace I started my working career at the well-know job of McDonalds, however I was the early-morning weekend cleaning crew. It only took me 6-monts of that to get me something better. I moved over to Staples-Business Depot in March of 1998 where I worked part-time as a Customer Service Representative / Sales Associate in the Computers & Business Machines departments. After finishing school the Department Head position for the Computer department opened up and I received the promotion. I ran the Computer Department for 1 1/2 years before I received an opportunity to enter my field of study within the Winnipeg School Division as an assistant to the Computer Technician at Sisler High School. For two years (2002-2004) I worked alongside a great Technology Deparment Head and the Computer Technician which led me to my current position as North District Computer and Network Support Technician with the Winnipeg School Division. I finally have my own office and lots of work. I love every minute of it. I started my own home business back in April of 2004 doing contract computer consulting and repair work. I set up shop in my basement building everything from desktop computers, laptops to servers. I'm hoping to eventually make a good business opportunity when the time is right. I figure I'll work for a while and get a little more reputation and take advantage of the free advertising opportunities I have until I can open a store or something. We'll see where this takes me.
