Dwaine's Story

To all who have read my previous Profile Story this is a reworking of the old story to better update what's been happening! So please bare with me, and I hope you don't get tooo bored!! I also have added in some pictures so that if anyone recognizes me (fat chance of that happening - right?), they'll know who to walk away from before "running into me"!! I'll try to give you a brief update of "Life after High School": in December '66 I was drafted by Uncle Sam, spent 5/67 - 6/68 in DaNang, Viet Nam, then spent 18 months in Vicenza, Italy. Came home to find almost everyone had left, or had passed on. From 9/70 - 1/73 I attended & Graduated from Fort Steilacoom Community College (which is now Pierce College at Fort Steilacoom); then From '73 - '84 I worked for the State Dept of Revenue as a Tax Collector in Vancouver, then took a job offer in Private Sector and was 'transported' to Austin, TX (where I met and married my wife [#3][4 children ages 30, 29, 28, and 26 (with the 26 yr old Graduating with honors from the U of W Pre-Med School, Class of '07 , and will soon be performing her Internship at a yet to be determined location ]; ended up working for the Texas Employment Commission, but in '95 my brother [Roger] came down with Leukemia & passed that Sept, and my mother suffered a stroke, so I needed to move back to UP and got to spend the next 7 years taking care of her until she passed in 2002. Worked at McNeil Island at the Special Commitment Center (the place that is always in the news concerning the housing of Level 3 Sex Offenders ['98 - 2005], (What did I do wrong to end up there?) and have spent the last 5+ yrs trying to get my life back in order [the Commitment Center almost caused the end of the trail for me (a Ruptured Hernia in my abdomen, and two major cardiac arrests due to the Pneumonia that took over) , but I came back!] - It's been a rocky road, but then I have never been one to be satisfied with "smooth sailing" (I have always been leary of "easy times"). I now have 8 Beautiful Grandchildren (7 boys and 1 precious girl). And in answer to the question "I can't believe we are at the end of 2010" : "I'm...Expand for more
still having trouble figuring out what I'm going to do with my life after graduating from High School, and feeling lucky that I made it through those tough years!! The rest of the time that has elapsed since then is just a blur and a mystery!!" I hope we can stay in touch, and I hope and pray that everything goes well with all of you. I would like to thank all the people who have helped me along the way from the Classmates at Curtis, to the members of Skyline Christian Church (where I was President of the Christian Youth Fellowship for 3 years in a row, and State-wide Vice President for 1 year) and First Christian Church on 6th Ave and Orchard (across from the recently removed landmark called Busch's Restaurant and Drive-In, and is now the new Sonic), most memorable would be Sandra Lantz, and Rogene Roberts. Then there were the Classmates and Faculty at Fort Steilacoom who came to my aid and helped me to learn How to Learn, How to Study, and how to Make it through School (yes, it is true that before then I really didn't have the foggiest idea how to pass a class unless it was while I was walking in the hallway!!! They also were instrumental is helping to believe in myself, and that I really did have something to offer the world for one thing by voting me Vice President of the DECA Club, which led to my being elected to State Vice President!) Even though an education is the most important thing that brings us to our career path the most important things in life have nothing at all to do with education, or how successful / or unsuccessful we are in the endeavors that follow, but instead it's all about family, loving, caring, sharing, making others around us happy, and at the same time making sure that we are also happy, and taken care of! The simple act of caring for someone other than ourselves can make such a huge difference in whether we can even think about what success really is!!! May the Dear Lord watch over and protect each and every one of you in all that you endeavor to do, or Have Done!! I am now "Unofficially Retired" - which merely means that I'm not yet ready to stop working, even though I no longer have to!!!!
