Dyan's Story

Dyan (Kieck) Valentine, USAF Veteran, Police Officer, Mom, Daughter, and Chef. Dyan moved to Naples at the age of 10 from Dumont, New Jersey and attended the 5th grade at Poinciana Elementary School, Naples, Florida. She attended East Naples Middle School and then Naples High where she was a clarinetist in the Golden Eagle Marching Band and Concert Band, all four years, under the direction of Mr. Jerome "Burr" Edwards and Mr. Robert Shaer. Her Senior year she took an extra music class and taught herself to play the Alto Saxophone. Dyan was also a Statician for the boys Freshman, JV, and Varsity Basketball teams, for three years, under the coaching of Mr. Smith (he taught math) and Mr. Barrel ? (name unsure - he was a really tall and skinny Science teacher. His first name could have been Bart.) She lettered all years for both band and basketball where she received her Letterman Jacket. She graduated June of 1988. She still plays clarinet and saxophone today and her 12 year old daughter is a clarinetist in the ENMS band. Dyan joined the United States Air Force her Junior year of high school on the Delayed Enlistment program while she was an Active Cadet member of the Naples Airport Chapter of Civil Air Patrol, under the command of Major W. Lee Lemasters; father of Jeff Lemasters - 1986 NHS graduate and drummer of the Golden Eagle Marching band and Retired USAF Spector Gunship Gunner. Dyan also took Cesna flying lessons through Civil Air Patrol for her pilots license. After graduation Dyan went to Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and remained there for her Technical Training at the Secuirty Police Academy specializing in Law Enforcement. She is a Marksman Shooter on both the 9mm handgun and M-16 Rifle. Her second training school was at Fort Dixx Army Base in Wrightstown, New Jersey for Air Base Ground Defense (ABGD), ground combat training school. This is where she experienced the "Gas Chamber" or shall we say "SNOT Chamber" for the first time and coined the phase, "If it's not RAINING, we're not TRAINING! Hu-Rah!" After a brief trip home Dyan was off to Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc, California guarding Top Secret and Highly Sensitive aeronautics like the Space Shuttle. Sunny or should we say, "Foggy and Devil Worshiping" central California, just above Santa Barbara; is where she lived for the next three years and then a move overseas to Osan Air Base in Songton-Si, Republic of South Korea (ROK); not many miles from where the actual Korean War was fought. Korea is where Dyan learned how to shop (which came in handy on the East Asian desert and European deployments where gold is real cheep and even THEY take Visa; drink & party like Jungle-Juice, White-Dogs, Oscar Champagne, and tons of Soju. Oh! and once again "Suck Rubber" on a bi-weekly basis while the air horns and attack sirens are going off with the enemy comming through the rice fields and thick brush while everyone is yelling "Gas!, Gas!, Gas!" Dyan spoke fluent Hangungmal or Hangul after that crazy tour and had a much greater respect than she already had for prior veterans of wars but especially the Vietnam Vets. And had the honor of being selected for a small group to represent Osan AB in Soule, Korea to meet with then Vice President George Bush Sr. Dyan was scheduled to be stationed at Homestead AFB in Miami, Florida after Korea but Hurricane Andrew destroyed the military installation and the entire town; so off to Georgia she went. She also speaks some Italian, Spanish, French, and Arabic. From 1992 until 1998, Dyan was stationed at Moody AFB in Valdosta, Georgia and deployed to the Middle East and Europe several times over the years. Prince Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base,(where Desert Shield/Desert Storm was fought) near Kuwait City, Kuwait. guarding the Stealth aircraft; with time spent at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia; Shaikh Isa Air Base, Bahrain where she worked on a special team assigned to a vehicle bomb checkpoint that controlled all acces of both vehicles and personnel attempting to gain access to the installation; with time spent at Manama Navy Base in Manama, Bahrain. The plus to this assignment was that now she was a trained 203-Granade Launcher Gunner and her days of humping the pavement were practically over - it was seat assignments in the Humvee, passenger side or "shot gun". Good that's where the heater was! Stayed warm on those cold desert nights. :) She was also selected to represent the Security Forces Squadron as main Gate Guard for the base visit and tour by Vice President Dick Cheney; who was then Secretary of Defense. She was also available when United Nations (UN) Leader Kofi Annan made a visit. Next deployment was to San Vito Air Base located in the southwestern (heal of the boot) of Italy in the town of San Vito de Normandy on a Joint Task Force/Special Forces Mission for the Bosnia-Herzegovina (Croatian War); with time spent at the Naval Station in Naples, Italy and Curfu, Greece, and had a wonderful trip to the Amalfi Coast dinning at a 5-Star hotel/restaurant. She also enjoyed the meal nd atmosphere at the Grotto Palazzese, which is a restaurant inside a cave in Polignano a Mare in the southern region of Bari Apulia, Italia. Also a unforgetable journey and experience on a tour of the destruction from Mount Vesuvius in the Bay of Naples in Pompeii, Italy. Not everything was a vacation because everyone was actually there to aid in the war. Not everyone that originally arrived together left alive together. There were some casualties and some fatalities. eams from all Special Forces units of the US military; like Navy Seals and Green Berets, and other countries like Canada, France, Italy, Spain, and England and not to forget the KICK-ASS Spector Gun Ships from Eglin AFB on the Emerald Coast of the Florida Pan-handle. Throughout her military years of service Dyan has also traveled and worked at numerous places in the United States and overseas like Alaska, New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Delaware, Virginia, District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.), and RAF Mildenhal, England where she drank and feasted in the pub on authentic British Ale's and fish & chips. Moron, Spain where she had her first live encounter with a millipeed; visited, ate and shopped in the town of Sevilla, Spain visiting the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and the home of the original Saint Nicholas (Santa Ckause). Off to Sicily to see the beautiful cathedrals and museums in Messina, Taormina & Giardini-Naxos. Enjoying the sites, shopping, nightlife, and learning about Mount Etna while traveling around on moppeds. Dyan left active duty in 1998 after 10 years of military service as what is now called Security Forces/Defender Fortes; working both law enforcement, ground combat, and security of vital government resources and personnel. She immediately started her Reserve (IMA) program and continued there until a medical seperation in 2005, with the rank of E-5 Staff Sergeant and is a Service Connected Disabled Verteran (DAV). On November 1, 2001, her Reserve unit was called back to Active Duty and she served another 18 months for Operation Homeland Security (due to the 9-11 Towers). Dyan met and married Martin Valentine of Metter, Georgia, an EMS Aircraft Mechanic, also an USAF Airmen stationed at Moody prior to getting off of active duty in 1998, they we married at Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Naples, Florida in May 2000 and resided in Hahira and Valdosta, Georgia. They divorced a few years later but have a beautiful daughter named Veronica. Veronica is now 12 years old and attended Poinciana Elementary School and now ENMS, just like her mama. :) Dyan has stayed with the law enforcement and security career field in her civilian life and worked as a Loss Prevention Detetive (catching shoplifters) for local retail stores like Beall's and T.J. Maxx for over the past 10 years. In 2010, at the age of 40 she decided to take advantage of what Uncle Sam gave her and go to college on the Montgomery G.I. Bill and change career fields. She went after her passion and love of her life: COOKING!! Dyan is a member of the May 17, 2013 Graduating Class of Keiser University at the Sarasota Campus where she received her Associates of Science degree in Culinary Arts; attending courses at the Keiser University Center for Culinary Arts; where she commuted back and forth from Naples for over 2 years. Dyan has since returned to school at (Keiser University - Pembroke Pines, Miami Campus) with 2 1/2 more years of education on the Post 9-11, Montgomery G.I. Bill to attain her Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science/Technology and Human Nutrition to become a licensed Registered Diatician (RD); so she can become a "HEALTHIER COOKING CHEF!!" Hoping to work for a major food distributer or agricultural supplier in the future. She is currently looking at prospective Midwestern and Westcoast Universities that work with local farmers of both livestock, produce, wine, and fermantation processing for the production of food for human consumption. Dyan's schools include Keiser University (A.S. in Culinary Arts 2012/2013) Sarasota, Florida, Naples High School (1988), East Naples MIddle School/Naples, FL; Lincoln Elementary School/Dumont, NJ; Webster Elementary School/Weehawken, NJ; Dyan's career for the past 20 years has been dedicated to the United States Air Force, Beall's Corp., T.J.Maxx/Marshall's Corp., Self Employeed Mary Kay Consultant, Full time College Student, and Garde Manger and Sous Chef. Oh, and let's not forget Single-Divorced Mom. Dyan's interests include Animals, Food, Music. Dyan's says she is still a rocker and head banger, into some rap, R & B, classical, about anything will do; it depends on the mood she's in. Some of these are from being a mom and having no choice but to listen to these CD's in the car for hour after hour with your kids. Big Time Rush, One Direction, Nikki Minaj, Flo-Ri-Da, Eminem, Victoria Justice, Lady Gaga and you have to catch a glimps of her hottie boyfriend - Taylor Kinney. He is also the sexy, heart throb Lieutenant KellySeveride on Chicago Fire. Michael Jackson, what a tragedy and a great loss to the world and the world of music, and stupid Taylor Swift. BUT SHE WILL BE A TRUE GNR & BON JOVI FAN TIL THE END!!! Books Dyan likes include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Agetha Christy (anything Horror or Suspense). Stepen King movies Dyan likes include The Vow, Stephen King, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. TV shows Dyan likes include Law & Order all versions but especialy SVU; we love Olivia and Elliot! House, Blue Bloods (who can't love Tom Select and Donnie Wahlberg?), That leads us to an old show called Magnum P.I with Tom Select and of course Las Vegas too. But wait then Las Vegas has Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas husband (which is a good band and Will I. Am is great too) - Josh Duhamel who also stars in Transformers. Disney Channel, Person of Interest. Saw movies are great too. Scariest movie I have seen in a long time and really good was 'Mama", check it out!! One of Dyan's favorite quotes is: "Godspeed and Pack Your Six". and a new one is "Contamination!"
