Ed's Story

Life After graduation from Winston, I spent five wonderful year at Ole Miss majoring first in Accounting (don't really know why) and then in Journalism. Of course, I was way involved in student life, student government and fraternity activities. Paul Peterson and I were roommates our first year at Ole Miss. Ole Miss was a lot of fun, and I think I learned a few things while I was there. I recieved my BS in Journalism in 1988 and immediately moved to Memphis. I joined the Public Relations Dept at LeBonheur Children's Medical Center where I spent 10 wonderful years. I managed a great team, and became very involved with community activities in Memphis. About nine years ago, I joined the Corporate Communications Dept. at FedEx. It's a great company to work for. We have 250,000 worldwide employees, and only 30,000 here in Memphis. I've worked in Media Relations as a "FedEx Spokesperson," in Crisis communications where we handle exciting and challenging issues, such as 9/11 and hurricanes. I've also supported the International Communications area. In 2003, I was the PR Manager for FedEx Canada and lived...Expand for more
in Toronto (Yes, I kept my home in Memphis). I now manage a Corporate Communicaitons Dept. in Memphis which is responsible for communicating for our executive officers and our 5,000-person Sales and Marketing team. Because of FedEx, I get to travel all the time. I'm in the air on a trip about 3 times a month Literally, people call and say...,"Where are you today?" Hong Kong, Beijing, London, Paris and Toronto are my favorite international cities, and Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Boston and Miami are among my favorites for the U.S. I've had some very cool roles while at FedEx. I've been responsible for some very cool projects. My favorites have been shipping Pandas from China to the Washington DC National Zoo; and then more pandas from China to the Memphis Zoo; moving the animals back to the New Orleans Aquarium on year after Katrina; launching new hybrid FedEx trucks with California's Gov. (yes.. Gov. Arnold the terminator...what a trip!)...every day is a different adventure at FedEx. My parents are still in Ackerman, and I do get back every other month to visit. Feel free to say Hi!
