Ed's Story

Life Update - 6/2013: Mike got married in March and finally moved out of the house. I have a grandson now - the girl Mike married, Liz, was pregnant when they met, but the kid looks just like Mike. He's 2 1/2 now, and a lot of fun. He spends each Thursday - Saturday with us because Mike and Liz both work the same shift on those days. Shannon has graduated Magna Cum Laude from Nease High School and will be attending University of South Florida (Tampa) in the Fall to study Health Sciences, on her way to a career in Athletic Training. That's my girl! Her best friend also attends USF, but is a year ahead of Shannon. They are hoping to share an apartment starting next year. Garrett is now a senior and has his eyes set on a culinary career. He has already been accepted into the Culinary program at The Arts Institute of Jacksonville, and volunteers as a counselor for the FCTC culinary camps during the summer. His acting career is over - he realized that he had to find a real vocation, and he is excited about the culinary thing. Diane and I are preparing for the empty next - hopefully 5 years from now, although Shannon will pursue a Masters degree in Athletic Training, so that may push the schedule back. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, though! We both still work for the same companies - Diane for Siemens and me with Ennis, Pellum & Associates. When we have leisure time, we spend it in Orlando visiting our favorite dueing piano bar - Jellyrolls, on the Disney Boardwalk. If anybody reading this if visiting the Happiest Place on Earth, send me a message - you must experience Jellyrolls! Updated - 9/2011: Still paradise, even though the house is a little crowded now. Mike met a girl online who happened to be pregnant. She and her baby boy now live with us; both he and she are working hard to put some money away to get their own place. Shannon is a high school junior now, and a leader in all she does. She is on the varsity volleyball team, a NHS scholar, and involved in too many clubs to list. She spent 6 weeks during the summer volunteering on work crew at a Young Life camp in N. Carolina. She's now looking at possible colleges - has her eyes set on FSU or University of South Florida. Garrett is very involved in theater - played Jafar in a summer production of Disney's Aladdin, and stole the show with his solo num...Expand for more
ber. A sophomore in HS now, he is in the chorus for Les Miserables, and has several solo lines in one of the numbers. Listening to him practice at home, and I'm impressed. I think I'm now the second best singer in the family. Buddy and Maggie are still the best two dogs in the USA. They are both great around the baby, as handfuls of fur in his little grasp, but no bite marks, will attest. We have to fight Buddy for the baby's toys at time, but he's just a little jealous. Diane and I are cruising on the Disney Dream for our 30th anniversary in October. Just a short 3-night cruise, then a couple days in Orlando (Sea World and Jelly Rolls). Looking forward to some time alone!!! I'm working as a business software consultant and having a blast. End 2011 update Almost two years now in Florida and life is great - I live in paradise! March, 2009, was a month to remember. We had visits from Diane's sister Linda and her three daughters, as well as my best friend, Pepsi, who attended two weekends of Spring Training baseball with me. We took advantage of our Florida Resident status to obtain DisneyWorld annual passes, and spent several days reacquainting ourselves with the happiest place on earth. Garrett is 13 now, and is interested in theater arts. He has performed in several local children's theater productions - as the Wolf in a comedic fairy tale mishmash (he stole the show), as Van Helsing in a Halloween production of Dracula, and as the God of Water in the musical Once on This Island (again, he stole the show with his solo - the kid can sing!). This summer he will appear in Godspell. Shannon will be 15 in July - and wants her learners permit on her Birthday. She is graduating 8th grade in June, and had a great two years here. She played basketball and volleyball for the school teams in 8th grade, and played very well. Mike also coached her in a Rec league in St. Augustine, and she showed toughness that can only mean she really is my daughter - she also showed an affinity for hard fouls, something else she might have picked up from me. Mike is 24 and still not back in school. He has started to lose weight, though, on Nutrisystem. His plan (and he always has plans) is to lose weight and then start back in Community College with hopes of playing basketball there. His plan better include a full-time job as well. More later.
