Edna's Story
To elaborate more on Q&A on how mnany children I have - four. I have three daughters ond one son, aged 44 to 54 so they're really adults!! I have two grandchildren one girl and one boy- also adults with children, so I have three great grand children. as well.
Having said that I will go back to the beginning. I was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta although our home was a farm in southern
Saskatchewan. Roseray was the name of the hamlet that had a general store, a garage, post office and community hall, also four grain elevators It is sad to know Roseray no longer exists. The last two families to live there were Andersons and Waites so theycalled it the A&W (root beer - get it?)
I went to a one room school house from Grades 1 to 10 and then to Hazlet High School from which I graduated in 1946. We had no graduation dance or anything then. I willl quote what my sister once said about tgraduation, "We walked out of the school in June and hoped we wouldn't be back in September."
I helped out on the farm for a year and then went to Balfour Tech in Regina, Sask my first experience on my own and with city life. From Balfour I worked for the Government of Sask a couple of years, then a girl friend and I went to Calgary and that`s where I found my way to the recruiting office and joined the RCAF. Basic Training was in St Jean, Quebec and then on course to Aylmer, Ontario. That was pretty easy as I already had a trade (clerk Steno) My posting off course was Trenton, Ont. I enjoyed the service life and eventually met and married my husband, Phil. He was into every sport that was invented and I wasn`t so I guess opposites attracted
that time . We were married just 2 months short of 48 years when he passed...Expand for more
away from multi illnesses.
But I digress . We were married in Trenton from there to Goose Bay, Labrrador, to Winnipeg, to Saskatoon, back to Trenton, To RCAF Centralia, to Camp Borden in 1969 Received qualifications to teach so he was hired at Perth and District Collegiate iInstitute. All our kids attended eventually so I guess they behaved pretty well because Dad was nearby.
In 1970 I beganworking at a Nursing Home for mentally challenged. First Iworked as an Aid, then in the office and then adminisatrator. In l989 the clients were taken out to group homes and into the community and I went out to pasture. Not too many jobs when you are 60.
I joined the Seniors Club affiliated with the Legion and was just appointed membership chairman again for the tenth year Nobody wants to hold office. I"m also 1st Vice Pres Ihave been a Legion member for 35 years also..
I also belong to the United Church and the women's group . I was secretary of our unit for a long time too. Now I'm on the communivcations team at church. We don't meet too often.
There! This pretty long but I am 79..
Addendum: 2 July 09
I am now 80 years old and have 1 more great grandchild, Braelyn Abigail Marie, My grandson's baby girl. She will be 1 on July 31. She is very cute.
Both of my cats have gone to kitty heaven in the last year. I miss them a lot but wil not try to replace them.
Everything else is pretty much status quo.
21 August 2011. I take back what I said about not getting another cat. My adorable Teddy came to live with me in January. He is sort of unique with 7 toes on one paw and 6 on the other. He now is boss of the house! I am now 82 and doing quite well.
