Edward (Zoltan)'s Story
Born in 1962 in Perth Amboy and attended Our Lady of Hungary till 1973. Our Lady of Hungary was my favorite school by far. It brings back warm memories of us as little kids being in class, finding out I had a talent for art, and playing out in the schoolyard. I loved the friends I had at the time, including Frank Balasco, Larry Desimone, Richard Cortez, Ronald Soboloski, and Joseph Gulyas. I remember falling in love in kindergarten with a dark-haired, dark-eyed beauty named Dana Coviello. I have such great memories of that time.
In 1970, my parents moved to Bound Brook, and I attended St. Joseph's elementary school, which was okay, but I missed my friends. Next, I went to St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, NJ, reunited with Ronald Sobolowski, Joseph Gulyas, and Irwin Dugasz. Honestly, I couldn't wait to get out of high school. From High School, I attended DuCret School of Art, another great school (really underrated), where I studied painting, sculpting, and illustration. In 1983, after art school, I traveled through Europe for a couple of months with a girlfriend. When I returned from Europe, I worked in department stores (Bamberger's, Abraham and Strauss, Lord and Taylor) designing in-store d...Expand for more
isplays. It was fun, creative work, but eventually, that work dried up. I bounced around for a few years as a bartender in New Jersey (Edison, Middlesex, Somerville)- basically trying to find my place in life. At that point, I needed to make some changes and I decided to begin using my middle name instead of Edward, so these days I go by Zoltan Csillag.
In 1990, finally decided to pursue some sort of art and was inspired by a friend who really started to make some strides in the marketing world. So I moved to Manhattan, became a graphic designer, and built a solid career in various design disciplines over the next 15 years. In the beginning, I lived in Manhattan, then got married in '91, moved to Queens, and bought a house in Glendale, NY, in '95. After that, we traveled a lot, mainly in Europe and the Caribbean. Then, after 8 years of marriage, I got divorced and moved to Astoria, and worked as a design consultant with the top branding companies in New York City. In 1998, I met my now life partner, Julia. In 2001, we decided to move to Connecticut and bought a house. Finally, in 2005, I started my own boutique creative design firm and most recently, we've been doing some exciting work in the luxury space.
