Elaine's Story

I' was still working part-time as a cook in a small privately-run senior's lodge at Linden after retiring from teaching Junior High Home Economics. in Calgary when we decided to make a move to Peace River where my husband was going to run a safety training facility. and I "retired " after having worked at this lodge for 18 years. in October of 2020 we moved to a property close to the Peace River Golf Course where we now have a Grimshaw address.. I 2015 I published a book called The Princess Doll's Scrapbook: Her Families' Emigration and Immigration Stories. It was a family history inspired by an 1870 vintage porcelain doll then in 2017 i started to put together a book based on my grandfather's personal memoir telling his homesteading story but it was interrupted by a major health issue with a GiST tumour. Homesteading in the Last Best West was finally completed in April of 2022, I am happy to report, You can contact me via private message on my personal Facebook or on the page I started for The Princess Doll's Scrapbook. and I can arrange to send you a copy f0r $20 plus postage. azines but so far no luck. The only publishing credits I have so far was editor of a newsletter for the Canadian Horse Association Rocky Mountain District, a group that my husband and I organized in 1993 after first getting two Canadian horses in 1991. We are no longer active with that group though we still have a few horses. After 8 years I look forward to the release of my non-fiction book "The 'Princess' Doll's Scrapbook - A Families' Emigration/Immigration Stories" to use the great wealth of material I have gathered in my research. All because of a my grandmother's doll dating back to 1870 and the stories of the families she has been connected to. The book is a mashup of styles including memoir and history and pictures After what seems like countless revisions that book is now complete and I have signed off with my publisher Friesen Press. It should be available through their website by the end of November 2014. You can find more information if you check my Facebook page "The Princess Doll's Scrapbook" Update. My book was released on December 6, 2014 and was available through the FriesenPress online bookstore. It is now also available on Amazon. I'm waiting for my first shipment of books and plan to hold book launches in my area as well as back in Estevan and Weyburn, SK. likely dates are sometime in Mid January. Another dream was realized when we got all of our approvals in place to start the operation of Mrs. Buffalo's Bed and Breakfast at our central Alberta acreage west of Linden. As of the year end we have had 19 different customer groups. Look us up on the Alberta Bed and Breakfast Association for details.
