Elizabeth's Story
Life
My daughter, Courtney, turned 22 this year. In college studying Psychology and Criminal Justice, but still living at home. I have two dogs (both rescues), one a mutt and the other a JRT. We live in a gated golf course community on lake conroe and I absolutely love it. I play golf as often as possible and love my golf cart! Who knew?
School
in high school at Spring Woods, the band was my life...playing french horn in concert band with Andy and Randy...and hanging out with Roy Ledgerwood. My best friend was Becky Tennant...and I worked weekends at the Dairy Queen in the summer. I'll never forget playing horn for My Fair Lady my senior yeat...
College
At UT, I was in the Classics Dept. Loved going to play readings, reading Douglass Parker's Chattanooga Choo Choo jokes outside his door, holding spontaneous 'symposia' in the park.
At Bryn Mawr, what wonderful memories of Glenmede, lantern night and step sings! I was in the Greek Dept in graduate school and have wonderful memories of classes with Rick Hamilton, Mabel Lang, Greg Dickerson, Machteld Mellink, Bruni Ridgway, etc. Spent a year at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (1983-4), finished PhD exams, but never finished the dissertation. I loved Bryn Mawr, the classical com...Expand for more
munity, and my experience there. I think I miss the wonderful seasons most of all (living in Texas for the past 23 years!).
Workplace
I owned my own medical transcription service in Dallas for 15 years, then, after rather severe car injury, changed jobs and ended up in computer animation for about 6 years. Never really made it (extremely competitive business), and I'm now working in my family business (which is absolutely love) with my Dad and brother, leasing and owning railroad tank cars in the Woodlands, Texas. I LOVE this business -- love the people, love trains and the railroads, love working with computers, programming, networking, etc. Life is definitely good....and I get to play golf when I can!
Military
I was in the 16th Signal Battalion at Fort Hood from 1974-1975. Went through Defense Information school at Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana out of basic training at Fort Jackson. Ended up as Battalion 'reporter' at Fort Hood. Took a lot of C of C pics, etc., ran a small battalion newspaper, then moved up to III Corps and edited the Fort Hood Sentinel for 2 years. I LOVED the paper and being a journalist. We won the Keith L Ware award my last year and, if they'd let me re-up as a journalist, I probably would have stayed. Got out as Sgt E-5 in 1977.
