Elizabeth's Story
Life
After graduating in 1976, I worked for the State of WV for 25 years. I went to school at night and was able to work my way into Computer Programmer/Analyst position with the state. I enjoyed that job alot for the last nine years with the state. Then I met my husband, Dennis Smith, and moved to the Eastern Panhandle of WV. We live in the nice town of Shepherdstown with my daughter, Jessica Alford, and my step granddaughter, Allina. Dennis has a daughter who has 3 little girls including Allina. My daughter, Jessica who is 25 years old, has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair.
Since I've been in the eastern panhandle I've enjoyed helping out in the office at New Hopewell Center for the Arts. My granddaugher Allina attended dance classes there for 5 years and was in the performance troupe. While there she was fortunate e...Expand for more
nough to be able to perform in "Zepyr's Pond", a children's musical written by one of our New York friends, Frank Pisani. Allina and her friends were part of the original cast. Our performance gave him a chance to see the entire production staged and he can make necessary changes to make it better. She also got to compete in dance and perform in other shows. Allina and I enjoyed traveling to New York City a few times, Myrtle Beach a couple of times, and Richmond.
As you can see, I am enjoying my pre-retirement life. I worked for a while part-time for WVU's Extension Service. I volunteer at the fire department helping with fundraising activities. My daughter, Jessica, requires alot of time. She is 25 and has cerebral palsy and severe seizures. I am appointed to the WV Developmental Disabilites Council and enjoy my work with that.
