Elizabeth's Story

My name is Elizabeth. I am the oldest of four and am from Salida, CO. I graduated from High School in 2002. In February 2004 I went to Germany for a Discipleship Training School (DTS) through Youth With a Mission (YWAM) It was a twelve week lecture phase learning more about God and how to tell others about God. The lecture phase was followed by a seven week practical outreach in Mexico. We went to Creel for 3 1/2 weeks, and then to Guadalajara. We did street evangelism, skits, worked in an orphanage and boarding school, ministered to the Taraumara Indians and homeless, prison ministry, and the like. I came back to the States in August 2004. I attempted to move out of my parents house and get on my own two feet by moving in with my cousin in March 2005. After seven months, I realized that wasn't going to work, so in October 2005, I moved back with the purpose of going to school. At the time I wanted to start in January, it soon became apparent that I didn't have enough time to get ready. So I put it off till May. Then I realized I wanted to do a lot of stuff in the summer, and decided to wait until August. I was half heartedly looking for scholorships, etc. when I got a call from my second brother Nathan. Since September 2005 he'd been traveling with New Life Drama Company. It's a ministry based out of Cleveland, Tennessee. They tour around the country preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus through the artform of sketch-drama. Every ten weeks they go back to Home Base to mix up the teams, write and learn new skits and then go back out, getting about ten days off for Christmas. He asked me...Expand for more
, "So, what do you think about traveling around the country doing Drama?" Well, I was seriously thinking I sort of wanted to go to school. I told him all the reasons why that would not be a good idea. However, a seed wasn't necessarily planted, it was already there, but it started to take root. While in Germany, one of the top questions on my list was "what do I do next?" And NLDC was one possibility. I do love the stage. Whether on it or watching it, I love the stage. My dream vacation is to travel around the country. And to top it all off, I do feel a call to missions. So, I decided to apply and was accepted. I had been accepted at the end of July, so to bide my time instead of working at KFC/Taco Bell for another six months, I worked at StarPoint, an agency for the Developmentally Disabled. I joined in March 2007 and am currently touring the country. My first brother David finished the Honor Academy April 2007 (a year long internship) through Teen Mania (who do Acquire the Fire events) in Texas. He just traveled with the Drama Company the summer of 2008. He is currently at home working getting ready for the next step in life. Nathan is now done traveling and is currently at home. He plans on moving to Ohio after the first of the year to be closer to his fiance, Taylor Anne Russell. They met in the Drama Company. My sister Sarah graduated May 2007 and then did her own DTS in Ireland. She went to Bosnia and Serbia for her Outreach. She got back home around March of this year. She is now currently working at Starpoint herself while waiting to see what God has next in store for her life.
