After 4 years at Ball State, and two at I.U., I moved to Las Vegas and worked as a member of Wayne Newton's traveling orchestra for about 5 years. (Kept working for him off and on until 1992.) After that I became assistant conductor/French hornist with the Jubilee! show at Bally's, director of public relations for the musicians' union, and traveled and recorded with several musical acts. Spent about 10 years working and traveling with Frank Sinatra. Married Joe Lano, a jazz guitarist, in 1990. Divorced in 2004. I have a stepdaughter, Julie, who lives in Italy and London, working as a DJ/musician (wonder where she got THAT idea??). Started a voice-over business in 1989 (still doing that) and then got back into radio in 1996. Co-anchored an afternoon/evening news show for a year, before moving to another station to host a morning drive radio show on an '80's rock station, and a night show on our sister station, which was sort of a nostalgia format, but with some jazz and film music added in. I quit the radio job in March of 2007 and am now happy to be back in music full-time, playing "Monty Python's Spamalot" at Wynn Las Vegas. I worked for about nine months as a senio...Expand for more
r PR specialist for a public relations agency, but it was definitely not my cup of tea. I'm now actively searching for another morning radio job. I also do some freelance writing, and work as an emcee at sporting events (most recently the Aflac Iron Girl Triathlon at Lake Las Vegas).
I've been fortunate to be hired to do some wonderful recordings, including a few critically-acclaimed jazz CDs for trumpeter Carl Saunders, and clarinetist Harry Skoler. I did a PBS special with Andrea Bocelli a few years ago, one for David Foster & Friends last wintet, and was featured on a six-part miniseries for the BBC titled "Casino".
My Mom passed away in 1985, and my Dad in 2008. My stepmom still lives in Indiana, in Avon. I get back to visit as often as I can.
I'm single (dating is a challenge in Las Vegas), I have a beautiful home, no kids, three cats (I am NOT one of those crazy "cat ladies", in case you were wondering) and I love to travel. I've been fortunate to see a lot of the world, and am looking forward to my next adventure!
Update: As of April 20, 2009 I will be the principal French horn player in "Phantom of the Opera" at the Venetian in Las Vegas, along with my freelance musical and voice-over gigs, and am also working at the National Public Radio affiliate, KNPR, during the week.
