Elizabeth's Story
Life
I'm finally a computer programmer, yay! Which means I have the dream job of an eleven-year-old, oh well... :p
Nobody who knew me will be surprised to learn that I'm still single and living near home. I spend almost all my time at my parent's house in Scotch Plains and my siblings also all live within 10 miles of my parents - poor Mom & Dad. ;) All three siblings are happily married and I have one niece (elementary school) & two nephews (toddler, infant) now. I love being the fun aunt that spoils them and then sends them home, too. :D
Still love origami, reading fantasy/sci-fi, listening to instrumental movie soundtracks, Princess Bride/Lord of the Rings/Star Wars/Muppets (and now Harry Potter), craft projects, video/computer games and of course rooting for 2 baseball teams: the Mets... and whoever's playing the Yankees. ;D
[warning]I finally got a driver's license a few years back, and a car, so you might want to stay off the sidewalks in town, lol.[/warning]
School
We really don't want to go here, do we? After all, everyone knows you couldn't pay me enough to go through hell "all over again"! >:(
College
I'm on the lifetime membership college plan. :p
I *told* everyone that I didn't want to go to college, but nobody wanted to hear that, so I did three full-time semesters right after HS...Expand for more
. Then I quit, got a full-time job and moved into my first apartment. I have since taken a couple of classes part-time (in 95/96, 98, 03) and may even have enough credits to become a junior now. Unfortunately, those credits don't include freshman english or required liberal studies type courses. Took plenty of computer classes, of course. :D
I finally decided to try a technical school and got a programming diploma from Chubb in '99, which led to my current job. :)
As for college 'memories', let's just say that I discovered my deep and abiding interest in Mt. Dew and the wonderful stress-reduction properties of Disney movies & coloring books during those first three semesters. ;)
Workplace
After 8 years as a glorified-cashier/pharmacy tech in retail pharmacies, I finally got my first 'real job', and it actually pays a living wage! :)
Now I write and maintain mainframe computer programs for the provider systems and application security teams of a large health insurance company. The location I'm at is a fairly relaxed environment (not too corporate/political), I like most of my co-workers and everyone has a good sense of humor (if we couldn't laugh...). Of course the projects keep getting bigger and the deadlines shorter. :p But, hey, I'm getting paid to play with computers; what could be better? :D
