Ellen's Story
Life
Aside from rearing 7 great (mostly!) kids, who now range from 22 to 32, I'm proudest of The Ships Project which has sent over 327,900 handmade "hugs from home" to deployed troops--knitted, crocheted, sewn--hats, slippers/socks, and cool ties. We've been profiled on TV programs as well as in newspapers, knitting magazines, and even READER'S DIGEST as well as the Department of Defense newsletter of 23 June 05. I still do some freelance writing, but knitting is my passion. We are also rearing our grandson, Isaiah, who was born 27 Feb. 05. We have a new granddaughter, born Dec. 17, 2008, to our second son, Dan, and his wife, Michelle. Julia is gorgeous.
We've been all over the USA, mostly camping or trailering, and California is still the prettiest state. I've continued writing to our troops, something I started during Vietnam. To all who served then, thank you.

om more. Is anyone else in Central Florida? We're in Casselberry in Seminole Co. Even if you're just here visiting, I'd love to hear from you or meet you. By the way, if you have family/friend deployed, we'd love to send them a package. It's an all-volunteer project, and we've been fortunate to have volunteers who also help with postage--which has gone over $200,000 in 7 1/2 years.
I'm also involved with Chemoangels, providing support and friendship for cancer patients. It is truly a worthwhile endeavor, and I think I get more out of it than anyone.
We recently bought a new mobile home on a bit of land and are very happy here. It is a good place to rear Isaiah. Our neighbors are as neighbors should be, and it's wonderful to know they are there if we need them, or vice versa.
Corey, the only one born in California (Simi Valley), is still dealing with the court system trying to get access to his son. The legal system here moves at a snail's pace. Meanwhile, I miss my little Tyler!

Hugs,
Ellen
