Ellen Shontz's Story

Life I was married in 1975 and still married to the samy guy 32 years later! We built a house behind my parents house in Croydon in 1978 and are still there. We had a son in 1982. I worked for the Society Security Administration in Bristol from 1973 until 1982, when our son was born. I then became a stay at home mom. In February 1987 I started to volunteer at the historic house museum, Pennsbury Manor (Morrisville) so I could talk with grown ups! 20 years later, I am working for the Commonwealth almost full-time and throughly love it! It's a great place to visit, volunteer at and to work at. I really couldn't work full-time due to our son. He has ADD, learning disabilities, central auditory processing problems, asthma and Asperberger Syndrom. So, with doctor and school appointments, it was best that I could work part-time to deal with these things. Now, at age 25, he has finally "discovered" that the medications he took from 4th grad through high school were helpful and made him the person he ...Expand for more
should be. He is a CNA working in a nursing home and this past fall semester he has done an "academic restart" at community college (since he did so poorly after he graduated in 2001). He has always wanted to be a nurse. Now, since he started taking his medications again, he realizes that he can work full time and do Community College part-time to try and achieve his dream. We like to travel and visit museums. We have an old travel trailer that we use almost every year. I have taken 2 cruises and been to London about 4 times. It's a great place to spend time in - everything is accessiable via public transportation. But, we have never been to Disney World! My husband is a machinist and also works part-time on the weekends on the Battleship New Jersey which is docked in Camden. He does the overnight "encampments", which is for families and groups with at least one child under age 18. They get to sleep on the ship overnight where the sailors did, eat where they did and all sorts of other neat things.
